1. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The internship was carried out at Deloitte Touche Thomatsu limited. G-8 Markaz Islamabad.
Since my area of specialization, finance & Audit and assurance department. The basic goal
and aim of my internship is to view how the different concepts we learned from our degree
courses is applicable in the organizations. I also want to learn the work environment in the
organization that how the employees work in the organization, how they behave with each
other etc. And I almost achieved the above goal. It helped me to gain invaluable practical
experience and gave me a perfect opportunity to study and adapt myself to the job
environment as well as allowing me to enhance my current skills and develop new ones for a
period of 6 weeks.

Although it was a necessary requirement for my BBA degree to undertake an internship


program of minimum six weeks in any company. I was also willing to complete it as I knew it
would offer me a precious chance to know how actually business activities are conducted in a
job environment and how different employees work together on common objectives. I wanted
to align myself with those employees and to study how Accountant actually work, how they
coordinate their activities, and to take part in all those tasks which are routine work for the
respective employees.

I took part in various activities to gain a knowhow regarding daily business work and to
perform certain ones which I hadnt done before and that directly contributed towards the
companys own work. Among the frequent activities.

As a student of finance, I had to work with the team manager and team leaders most of the
time to get some insight regarding clients and the companys most profitable customers.

While working with the respective employees of the entire team, I learnt how work is
distributed and how certain employees accomplish their tasks and limits and restrictions of
every employee.

Likewise, an established hierarchy exists at the top of which is followed by the Seniors
Managers than Managers and supervisors and then job Incharge. Different projects were

divided to different teams. Every team consists of Senior Manager, Manager, Supervisor and
job incharge that supervises and monitors the activities of all the designated employees below
him and approves and verifies all the all the working held in the employees end.

The firm was established in 1972, and it has become one of the leading professional services
firms in Pakistan. The firm is providing services to our 500 clients including both

multinational and local companies. The firm has significant presence across manufacturing,
services, commercial, financial and public sector entities in the country.

The firm has a workforce of more than 600 people in 4 offices across the country. Our staff
includes more 100 qualified accountants and MBAs, It experts and other technically qualified
persons.

It is globally integrated organization in terms of omission, vision and strategy. We have a very
active global development program. As part of this process, we send more than 100 staff
members overseas every year for internal training and Secondments.

We encourage diversity of views in our staff cross fertilization through inter division postings

6.WORK DESCRIPTION:

I started my internship in Deloitte chartered accountant firm in audit and assurance


department. I learnt about the audit procedures and on DUE DILIGENCE, reasonable steps
taken by a person in order to satisfy a legal requirement, especially in buying or selling
something. which the firms use in their work to maintain accounts and balances. audit
procedures are

Existence or occurrence. Assets or liabilities of the entity exist at a given date and
recorded transactions have occurred during a given period.

Completeness. All transactions and accounts that should be presented in the


financial statements are so included.

Accuracy. Transactions and account balances are accurately recorded.

Valuation. Assets are stated at realizable value, and liabilities are stated at expected
settlement amounts.

Rights and obligation. Assets are the rights of the entity and liabilities are the
obligations of the entity at a given date.

Presentations and disclosure. Particular components of the financial statements are


properly classified, described and disclosed.

I worked on the project of UTILTIY STORES on receivables of store incharge. To verify the
receivables of the store incharge for last three years from 2012-2013, 2013-2014, and 2014-
2015 through preparing their vouchers and send them to verifications on their addresess
which they have the shortage or they have no balance. They are liable to pay their shortages
on time. We checked their shortages from their payrolls. I compared their payroll and the

data given to me. I checked that is the store incharge actually exist or not. If he actually
exists, then we have to make sure their verifications.

There were to reconciliation ledger where I worked, A general ledger and a employees
wise ledger.
Accounts (such as Cash, Equipment, Accumulated Depreciation, Sales, Telephone Expense,
etc.) are contained in the general ledger.

Then I learnt the basic tools of excel sheet,

7.ANALYSIS

7.1 Usefulness of program

The general notion present in Pakistan is that chartered accountant firms are most often
related with finance or accounting and auditing, tax human resource and have very little to do
with marketing. That maybe the case depending on the type of operations that take place but
when a more in depth analysis and insight is obtained, the findings are quite contrary to

popular belief. A marketing student may easily survive without having knowledge of finance ,
so can a human resources student, but for a finance student to succeed, he must have the basic
know how related to many common fields among which finance and human resource play a
vital role.

7.2 Self-assessment

On my own assessment, I believed I did a remarkable job. I never showed a casual attitude
towards work and always came early and left late because I wanted to remain loyal with my
work. I was always available for work and other projects and was never satisfied that I learnt
everything. I kept pushing to understand each and every thing about auditing and somehow
finance and performed my duties at a good rate. To get a taste of the practical environment for
the first time was and will be really beneficial for my career ahead, and I also learnt many
new things and procedures and also enhanced my knowledge about auditing and due
diligences.

8. FINDINGS AND RECOMMENDATIONS


As the world is becoming more dynamic and global, every institution regardless of their
industry should constantly strive to adapt to changing environmental conditions. Competition
is extremely intense where FIRMS have to constantly bring new business and products to
better serve their customer needs. Although I worked in FIRM for duration TWO MONTHS, I
was able to generate some useful findings regarding the FIRMS and other institutions. Some
of them are:

8.1 Respect and kindness:


Another important finding, I observed was the way in which the employees of the firm dealt
with walk in customers and clients. They always emphasized exceptional customer service
and no matter how hectic the schedules of the employees are they always tended to the
requests of the customers and tried their best to minimize their waiting times. Customers with
little or no knowledge about the operations of the firms and educationally weak were assisted
in any way possible by the employees to make their visit pleasant rather than confusing and
miserable.

8.2 Coordination and knowledge:
One important point that the organization needs to improve on is the integration of the
employees and the knowhow each worker has apart from his own routine job description. On
several occasions, I observed that in the absence of the appropriate worker, the customer
would need to wait or come back at a later time in order has for his request to be processed.

8.3 Employee sincerity


First and foremost, the most important thing that the firm has to improve is the level of
sincerity of all the workers in the firms structure. When the employees themselves remain
loyal to their work can they be in the right frame of mind to accomplish their individual
objectives as well as carry the firms reputation. Also, service quality is also heavily
dependent on the motivation level of employees so the firm should strive hard to offer and
undertake those policies that are in the best interests of the employees because the benefits of
those will be twofold.

8.4 Increased advertising


In a society that is quite malleable, firm should exploit this opportunity to increase
advertising. Although their advertisements are aired on television, they should make a broad
plan to increase advertising budget so that large masses can be targeted with the service and
the content of the ads should be interesting and compelling and should be communicated
explicitly so that there is no room for ambiguity. The ads should be convincing and should
communicate clearly on which grounds the firm is better than its competitors.

8.5 Appropriate incentives


In order to increase service quality and establish a loyal and hardworking workforce, the
organization should offer appropriate incentives. Employee performance should be monitored
and increments and bonuses should be provided as a sign of appreciation so that employees
know their worth. Apart from salary increases, occasionally, they should be offered flexible
work hours during festive periods in the calendar to maintain and possibly increase morale
and commitment.

8.6 Change with changing environment

In todays dynamic and changing environment, changing is not just required to stay on foot
with competitors but an organization cannot survive unless they change themselves with
changing conditions. The firm has nevertheless managed expectations really well and
introduced certain changes in its services and policies in order to not just survive but also
maintain a solid position in the auditing sectors.

9. CONCLUSION

Deloitte Touche Thomatsu is a well reputed institution not just in Pakistan but around the
globe. Although not at the summit at present, but its policies and approach hold it in good
stead to challenge the top players sooner rather than later.

Of course, it was a great first experience to be working in a practical environment and during
my tenure; I learnt many things regarding the profession as well as obtained useful guidelines
about how one should conduct him or herself in the practical settings.

I appreciate the help of all my Senior colleagues in the office premises who made me feel like
part of the team and taught me really well about the industry. I learnt it is one of the riskiest
businesses one can undertake with success depending more on external factors than on
internal factors.

This institute hopes to take special measures to ensure that its employees are well respected
and that they operate in a friendly environment because their morale and motivation will
ultimately lead to customer satisfaction and improve service quality and eventually create a
favorable brand name and increase goodwill.

Although in a limited time period it is impossible to study and perform each and every
function and understand all the particulars of a specific profession, but I did my utmost to
accomplish every task as quickly as possible and to gain experience and knowledge about this
profession and I hope this internship program will benefit me in my years to come.
