The EP Project (Units 5 and 6) - NOTES

The Sample and MIDI tracks

1.1 Analyse the requirements and parameters of a production design brief in

music performance.

- What is sampling? Give examples of where sampling has been used in

music production.

- How can sampling be used as a starting point for composition?

- How does MIDI help the composition of music?

1.2 Apply research activities to support solutions to a production design brief in

music performance.

- How did you use this research to help decide which samples to use?

- What factors do you need to take into account when using a sample,
e.g. with timing perhaps?

- How did you fix any problems (length, clicks, timing/tempo)?

2.1 Demonstrate the ability to plan, organise and present solutions to a

production design brief in music performance.

- What was the brief, why do you think there were certain limitations,
and how did you prepare?

- Show evidence of planning your sessions. Why is this important?

you to create your tracks?

3.1 Analyse effectiveness of solutions to a production design brief in music

- On both tracks, how effective were you in creating your initial idea?

The Acoustic track and Multi-track recording sessions

1.1 Analyse the requirements and parameters of a performance brief.

- What equipment is required for a multi-track recording session?

- How might you need to prepare for a session in MIDI room, recording
acoustic guitars?

1.2 Apply research activities to support solutions to a performance brief in music.

- What are the main types of microphone found in a recording studio?

- Explain their differences and how each may be used.

2.1 Demonstrate the ability to plan, organise and present solutions to a

performance problem in music.

- Before your multi-track recording session, what did you have to

prepare?

- How and where are microphones used to record drums?

2.2 Apply practical skills, understanding and methods to solve performance

problems in music.

- What functions of Logic were used to edit and mix the recordings?

3.1 Analyse effectiveness of solutions to a music brief.
