Dear Dr. Noseworthy:
lam writing to express my dismay about the March 15, 2017 Star Tribune story headlined “Mayo to give
preference to privately insured patients over Medicaid patients.”
‘The Minnesota Department of Human Services supports access to the full scope of health care services for all
public program enrollees. Its our expectation that Mayo Clinic will continue to serve public program enrollees
in the same manner it serves patients with private insurance.
We are reviewing our managed care, fee-for-service and Integrated Health Partnership agreements with Mayo.
We will be following up with a detailed letter raising specific questions about how Mayo plans to continue to
‘meet its obligations under the contracts as well as under state and federal law.
Assistant Commissioner Nathan Moracco will be DHS's primary contact person for Mayo Clinic on this matter.
| trust that Mayo Clinic is committed to serving all who seek care within ts world-renowned facilities; | intend to
hold Mayo to the same standards as all other providers with whom DHS contracts.
‘Thank you in advance for your cooperation in responding to our concerts.
Sincerely, .
Emily Johnson Piper
Commissioner
Minnesota Department of Human Services
