Calculation for thickness of body valve (Size 8" class 300)

t = 1.5 ( Pc.d/(2S -1.2Pc)

t = calculated thickness.
Pc = pressure rating class designation or number, psi (e.g., for class 150, Pc = 150, for class 300, Pc = 300 psi
d = inside diameter or port opening as defined in para, 6.1.2, in
For the purpose of determining wall thickness tm, the inside diameter d is taken as the minimum diameter of the
flow passage but not less than 90% of the basic inside diameter at the valve end.

S = stress factor of 7000 psi

Symb Qty unit Materials = ASTM A216 GR WCB

Pc 300 psi Class = 300
d 8 in Temp = 210 c

Inspection result

On 2009 = 12.00 mm
On 2011 = 10.50 mm

Corrosion rate

Corrosion rate = (12.00

-10.50)/2
= 0.75 mm

Remaining live base on Erosion rate

Remaining = (10.50
-6.70)/0.75
= 5,07 years

Note : This calculation bases corrosion rate if corrosion rate unegual rate every year then this calculation
will not be in accordance with condition actually
Failure analysis of leaking on body valve TV 104

Fact available
1 Body of control vale TV 104 is experiencing leaking
2 Diameter of leaking is 5 mm
3 Surrounding area of leaking point is getting thin evenly
4 Opening of valve is in the range of 30 - 40%
5 Frequent cleaning of EA 118 found considerable amount of solid particle on tube side
6 Replacement of finer mesh strainer on the outlet of gasoline fractionator (DA 101) to filter solid particle
carrying by quench oil make pump GA 101 become cavitate

Check Reference
Reference mentioned that
In most liquid systems, erosion is not a problem for velocities under 6 m/s in metal piping.
If a liquids contains small amounts of solids as contaminants which may possible cause erosion,
fairly low velocities are recommended, i.e less than 1.5 m/s
Conclusion
1. It is not possible to preclude the solid particle flowing in the quench oil due to limiatation in pump
GA 101
2. The solid particle coming from coke is the main cause of erosion in internal part of valve
3 .Less opening of valve in the range of 30 - 40 % agravate the erosion since it increase the velocity
of fluid to become 7.3 m/s
d particle
