Grades 4-6 $150 cash prize
Grades 7-9 $250 cash prize

Eligibility: Open to all Michigan students who (1) are in grades 4 -12 attending
public, private, religious, or charter schools, or (2) are attending a home school
program.
ESSAY TOPIC:
Freedom of Religion is the right
to choose a religion (or no
religion) without interference
by the government. Essays
should address this question.
Guidelines:

Grades 4-6 Grades 7-12
What Does the Constitution Say What Has Our Nation Denied or
About Religious Freedom? Afforded Us Based on Our
Religious Beliefs?
In your answer, incorporate the principles and specific examples
(including current events) that support your conclusion.
Minimum of five (5) paragraphs, Minimum of 500 words, no more
no more than ten (10) paragraphs than 1,000 words.
Must be the original work of the student.
If typed, use font no smaller than 12 pt.
Cite all sources used.
All essays will be scored based on:
Conceptual Understanding
Factual Accuracy
Structure (including vocabulary and writing style)
Grammar/Spelling/Punctuation
Depth of Analysis and Presentation

Essays are to be submitted along with the application.
The deadline for ALL applications/essays is Friday, April 14, 2017. Please submit your application
and essay to LAM Scholarship Committee via email: lamscholarshipcommittee@gmail.com on or
before this date.
The award recipients will be notified by Monday, April 24 th and asked to submit a video submission of
them reading their essay. Additional instructions will be given to the recipients. The video will be
played prior to and after the NDP program.
All recipients will be acknowledged at the National Day of Prayer program which will be held on
Thursday, May 4th from 12-1 p.m. We are asking all award recipients and their families to attend.
