STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

I, ERANGA DINESH SAMARAWICKRAMA, born in Sri Lanka on the 25th of October, 1990 wish
to apply for a Student Visa for the purpose of studying the Diploma in Information Technology
(Advanced Network Engineering) NZQA Level 7 at Computer Power Institute, Auckland, New
Zealand which is due to commence on 19 January 2014.

My application is supported by my parents who are sponsoring the funding requirement for my
studies

Ever since I was young, I have had a passion for computers. I live with my parents and two
brothers. My parents and elder brother are involved in the long running family business of building
materials. I take a great interest in reading, swimming and general fitness during my leisure time.

I passed GCE Ordinary Level examination in December 2006 and subsequently completed GCE
Advanced Level examination in August 2008 at Royal Institute of Higher Education in Colombo.
Thereafter, I enrolled for the Diploma in Information Technology at ITMIN Business and
Management Training Limited and successfully completed the course in August, 2010 which gave
me an in-depth knowledge on the essential skills related to computing, software development and
applications, networking and data communications, e-commerce and Visual Basic programming.

The Diploma of Information Technology (Advanced Network Engineering) NZQA Level 7 from
Computer Power Institute will upgrade my qualification and I will gain up to six of the industrys
most highly sought after internationally recognised certifications such as Network+, CCNA,
MCSA, Red Hat certification stream, Security+ and CWNP Wireless. I have fulfilled the admission
criteria by achieving an excellent score at the aptitude test and scoring an overall band of 7 points at
the IELTS test which was held in November 2013.

When choosing a destination for higher education, I preferred New Zealand as my first choice for
being able to provide a world class education in a safe, peaceful, multi cultural and English
speaking environment. New Zealand offers cost effective education and living compared to most
countries in Europe, North America and neighbouring Australia. Besides, I get the opportunity of a
lifetime to gain hands-on training and experience where IT industry is at its peak. New Zealand
Qualifications Authority (NZQA) assures a total peace of mind for international students by
implementing a Student Fee Protection Policy. Apart from that, I personally think it would be a
great privilege to study in a country which is renowned for its outstanding natural beauty.

I have spoken to Mr. Matthew Jones, the Computer Power Representative and he reviewed the
Network Engineering courses conducted at the institute with me. Afterwards, I checked NZQA and
Computer Power Institute web sites and Im very happy with my decision to follow The Diploma of
Information Technology (Advanced Network Engineering) NZQA Level 7.

Computer Power has modern and exceptionally well equipped campuses in the three largest cities
across New Zealand (Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch). Computer Power has teaching
experience over 4o years and has approximately 500 students from New Zealand and many
-1-
countries around the world. This gives me a valuable multicultural experience in addition to my IT
studies. Their programmes are recognised for their quality, flexible learning methodology and
success at placing students into excellent jobs.

I believe this is the best opportunity for me to obtain the most appropriate qualification for my
career advancement. Upon the completion of my previous Diploma in IT, I started my career at
Wickramaratnes Private Limited, Colombo as a technical assistant and worked my way up to an
Assistant Network Administrator over the past years. I am passionate about learning advanced skills
in Network Engineering which will obviously help me to enhance my career prospects. I am
convinced that The Diploma of Information Technology (Advanced Network Engineering) at
Computer Power Institute is the right choice for me as it enables me to upgrade my existing
qualifications and gain industrys most highly sought, internationally recognised certifications.

In summing up, I believe that I have the right credentials to undertake the Diploma in Information
Technology (Advanced Network Engineering) at Computer Power Institute and hope that you will
identify me as a potential student who is capable of completing this prestigious qualification.

I hope you favourably consider my Student Visa application for study in New Zealand.

Yours sincerely,

(ERANGA DINESH SAMARAWICKRAMA)
