Patchwork

Introduction
Patchwork is a form of needlework that involves sewing together pieces of fabric into a larger design. To create a beautiful quilt
requires effort and time, but the available patches just do not want to fit together. So choose your patches carefully and keep a
healthy supply of buttons to not only finish your quilt, but to make it better and more beautiful than your opponents.

Goal
The game ends after both players time tokens reach the last space of the time board. Each player adds together the number of
remaining buttons they have, adds 7 points (if they have the special tile (7x7)), and then subtracts 2 points for each empty
space on their quilt board. The player with the most points wins!

Setup
1. Each player takes a Quilt Board, a Time Token and 5 Buttons.
2. Place the Game Board in the middle of the table (both sides play the same, so pick the illustration you like best!).
3. Place both Time Tokens on the entry space of the Game Board (at the edge). The player who most recently used a
needle is the Start player.
4. Randomise the Patches and place them in a circle around the board.
5. Locate the 2x1 patch, and place the Neutral Token between it and the next patch clockwise round the board.
6. Put the Special Tile (7x7) somewhere near the board
7. Place the Special Patches (1x1) on the indicated spaces on the board

Course of Play
Each turn, the player whose time token is closest to the start of the time track takes his turn.
Players do not necessarily alternate turns, and a player may take multiple turns if they continue to be the furthest
back.
If both tokens are on the same space, the player with the token on top goes first.
On their turn, a player can take one of two possible actions:
1. Advance and receive buttons: Move your time token along the time track until it is one space in front of your
opponents time token. Receive one button per space you moved your token.
2. Buy and place a patch: This action occurs in five steps that must be followed in order.
a. Choose a patch from the three patches that are next clockwise from the current position of the Neutral
Token.
b. Place the Neutral Token next to the selected patch
c. Pay the number of Buttons depicted on the Patch price label
d. Place the Patch on your Quilt Board:
i. Patches must be placed so that they line up with the grid-lines on your Quilt Board
ii. Patches may be placed in any (90o) orientation.
iii. Patches may be placed either side up.
iv. Patches need not be adjacent to previously placed Patches.
v. Patches may not overlap each other or over-hang the edges of the Quilt Board.
e. Move your Time Token Spend the amount of time (hour glasses) depicted on the Patch price label. If you
finish on the same space as your opponent, put your token on top of theirs.

The Time Board

Regardless of which action you take, you will move your time token on the time board. If, during the process of moving your
time token you pass certain spaces, take the following actions:
Button Income If you pass over a Button (between spaces), you receive 1 Button per Button showing on all Patches
in your Quilt Board. If you pass more than one Button while moving you resolve the income for each Button Income.
Special Patch If you pass over a Special Patch (between spaces),, you place it any unoccupied space on your Quilt
Board immediately.

The Special Tile

The first player to completely fill a 7x7 section of his Quilt receives the Special Tile that is worth 7 points at the end of the
game.

Game End
The game ends after both Time Tokens reach the last space of the Game Board. If a Time Token were to move past the last
space, it simply stops on the last space (meaning that if the last patch you buy needs more time than you have left on the time
track, you can still buy it, but just stop on the last space). In case of ending after Action 1, you only receive buttons for the actual
number of spaces moved. Once both players have reached the last space, end game scoring occurs. Each player adds together
the number of remaining Buttons they have (dont count the ones on your quilt), adds 7 points if they have the special tile (7x7),
and then subtracts 2 points for each of the 81 quilt spaces that are uncovered on his Quilt Board. The player with the most
points wins! (NB - your score may be negative, in which case the player with the least negative score wins!).
