SCPC Promises Lively

Homecoming Perfomances
After much hard work and anticipation, the Homecoming Concert artist has been
revealed. In what was a drawn out and big celebration to reveal the artist, the student
body could not contain their excitement. Posters have been passed around, and there
has been extensive chalking outside Clough and around Tech Green. This Wednesday
was the final reveal. This included themed cookies in the shape of the performers
heads. The performers were revealed by the Campanile through unveiling large in-
flatables of the artists secured in the Campanile water. The next Homecoming Con-
cert will feature Tupac, opening with Elvis. Until the concert, the inflated bodies of
Elvis and Tupac will watch over campus swaying to the music of the wind.
The committee in charge of the concert spoke with the Techlique, and were quick
to emphasize the sheer amount of time spent contacting these artists in hopes for
their appearance on campus. Tupac, apparently, was easier to reach of the two, and he
was happy to make this his second performance of the millennia, his appearance at
Coachella in 2012 with Snoop Dogg Lion Dogg being the first.
Elvis will be performing his Elvis is Back album from 1960, along with hit
single A Fool Such as I. The committee relayed to the Technique that they are lucky
to have Elvis in Atlanta, since his last performance here was in the Omni in 1976.
Many students expressed their delight in having artists on campus that they could
relate to. Nowadays, Tupac and Elvis give off a very pale and tired vibe, as if they are
barely here due to their limited tours.

Campanile To Be Shut
Down Forever and Ever
Due to water conservation concerns, the administration has decided to perma-
nently turn off the Campanile fountain. When every seat in the student center is full,
the Campanile can be counted on to provide seats in direct sunlight and covered in
pollen. At the end of last semester, the fountain was turned off to avoid the water
freezing. Many students thought the fountain would return with warm weather.
Some students hypothesize the fountain will turn on once construction finishes
up. Others applaud the school for conserving water. Yeah, its an iconic piece of
Techs campus, but weve already got plenty of pictures of it. We need a bigger student
center more, said Jessica Taylor, second-year CE.
Other students miss the fountains happy spray. I like the gentle spitting of the
Campanile on my legs and arms. Plus the sound of the water drowns out other stu-
dents conversations. What am I supposed to do illegally after graduation now? Steal
the T? said Elizabeth Maria, fourth-year ME.
The money saved from turning off the water will be added to an account to help
fund the student center expansion project, which will eventually replace the Campa-
nile with student organization office space.

Mayan Apocalypse Part II:

The Impending Final Days
Campus was a sad sight to many on Monday morning as students begrudgingly
returned to their academic lives after a week of poor decision making and careless
fun. They were immediately forced to come to terms with their futures at this school
as registration for summer and fall semesters started. Meanwhile, tests from well-
meaning professors who didnt want to swamp students before break started to roll
in, forcing students to stay up late cramming even the first day back. Additionally,
Netflix announced that it would be taking several beloved titles off at the end of the
month; students were forced to fit hours of Buffy, The X-Files and House into these
last few days. Its not hard to see why despair has already set in all across campus.
Even as early as January, students report feelings of impending doom and a gradually
rising sense of doom.
They say they manage to quell those feelings with copious procrastination and in-
creased fabricated drama. However, with the freedom of Spring Break, these coping
mechanisms are tossed out the window while these students enjoy the opportunity to
relax and actually enjoy their lives. Upon their return though, they realize that finals
are scarcely a month away.
Despite the sunny weather outside, they feel a dark cloud of despair above them,
and cant enjoy the new warm weather. As they walk down Skiles walkway and hop
on buses, they feel the sense of dread within them growing, always growing. Its only
a matter of time now, the doom whispers. No amount of coffee can tamp down this
doom, and in a couple of weeks, well see the effects of it on these students. While
the library starts being occupied at all hours, and the hunt for a seat with outlets
in the CULC becomes more desperate, well see the familiar look of despair in the
students eyes.
If there was a line graph of impending doom on campus, you recognize a trend
of it gradually increasing and then rapidly spiking up towards the very end of the
semester. It plateaus around mid-April, and then stays at a maximum until the end of
the semester. There isnt much we can do to stop it, so sit back and get ready for the
doom. Its coming.

The trend continued with other
private prison companies like the

Breaking down Executive Student Government elections

MAURA CURRIE
NEWS EDITOR

The respective elections codes for the undergraduate and graduate SGAs are virtually identical, with word-
for-word descriptions of proceses, violations and sanctions shared between the two documents; both components
of SGA have oversight committees to provide judicial review of all election proceedings, supplemented by the
Undergraduate Judicial Committee or Graduate Judicial Committee as needed.
Both components of SGA also have elected legislative bodies the Graduate Student Senate and the Under-
graduate House of Representatives which are assembled and operate in much the same manner, though the
Graduate Student Senate is smaller. Election mechanisms and procedures operate largely similarly, save for a num-
ber of key differences; critically, potential violations involving campaign teams, materials and strategies are nearly
identical for both. The Graduate election took place from March 28 through March 31, and the Undergraduate
elections took place initially between March 13 and 16 before entering a runoff vote between March 27 and 30.
Both SGAs utilize elections.gatech.edu as their online voting platform for prospective voters.
However, there are some key differences between how executive elections are carried out and how a candidate
is deemed eligible to run, as well as in the general competitiveness of the race.
