Dear Parents and Guardians,

At Westview K-8, we strive to maintain a safe and secure learning environment and build
trustworthy relationships between our students and staff.

This afternoon, school administrators received a student tip about other students possibly
being in possession of a weapon. School administrators and Duval County School Police
immediately investigated the claim, performed a search and discovered that multiple
students were in possession of a single firearm and a magazine with rounds. The items
were confiscated, and the students were immediately taken into custody. These students
now face arrests, criminal charges and discipline according to the Student Code of
Conduct. No students or staff were threatened or harmed during this incident.

We are very pleased with the responsiveness and cooperation of our students, staff and
security teams. We are also thankful for the students who came forward to report this
incident. As parents and guardians, you are a critical component to encouraging and
fostering your childs success. Please talk with your children about the serious
consequences that can result from poor decision and bringing a firearm or weapon on
campus. In addition, we ask that you monitor your childs belongings and the items he or
she may bring to school.

Please continue to partner with us in keeping Westview K-8 a safe and effective learning
environment. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at (904) 573-
1082.

Sincerely,

Claire St. Amand
