Organising across departments throughout the UK

In her final report as FDA

Organiser, Rebecca Billington
looks back at the FDAs
successful recruitment
campaign in 2016 and forward
to a number of exciting events
in 2017.

As part of our organising

strategy, we began a
recruitment campaign
last year which involved
a roadshow of events in
government departments
throughout the UK. This
roadshow was based on the success of
our Civil Service Live events in recent
years, and so far we have visited more
than 15 departments, introduced the
union to thousands of civil servants and
recruited many new members.
We succeeded in raising the profile of
both FDA and Keystone in all locations,
with a stand at each event to display our
literature and promotional materials,
and by speaking to members and non-
members about the benefits of union
membership. We have continued the
recruitment campaign into 2017, when
we are planning to get out to even more
departments across the UK. Keystone Organiser Sue Hollywood-

Joining up organising across

departments
Getting out to the regions is always
high on our list of priorities because
FDA members are spread across the
whole of the UK. We may not get to
visit some locations as often as we
would like, but its important for us
to make sure we are hearing from all
members about the issues affecting
them. Some of the feedback we have
been receiving at these regional events
suggests some members feel isolated
when their departments are not based
in a government hub office. This
is a hot issue at present due to the
Governments Super Hub program
which is leading to the rationalisation
of estates.
One of the issues raised by members
