Aim for Lesson Syllabus Outcomes:


To make money amounts with coins and notes. ACMNA059 - Represent money values in multiple ways and count the change
required for simple transactions to the nearest five cents (Problems solving) [PSC]

Introduction (Engagement)
Ask the students how do they know which coin is worth what amount, and how to tell if they are different. Share responses with the Marking of worksheet
group. If none of the students mention it, show the students the image on the front changes and shows a different amount. Repeat for the
notes, asking the students of any visual changes when looking at the notes, again if the students don't notice, mention that the images are
different also.
Body
(Exploration/Transformation/Presentation)
Explore the first question and ask the students for what their thoughts are on how to complete the question. Place the cash register in the
middle of the group and one at a time ask a student to take the money out and place it on their books in front of them, monitor the
students and see who knows how to count the money and who is copying others. Let the students continue with that question and if their
comfortable, allow them to continue with the rest of the worksheet.

For those who are struggling with completing the first question allow them to use the play money so they can have concrete materials.
For those students who are fast finishers ask them to find in the most creative way using as many different notes and coins as they can
$87.35, $99.85 and $123.45 leaving the combination of coins and notes on their desk for the teacher to assess.

Once they have shown they are capable in completing the task, send the students back to their offices to finish their other work.
Conclusion (Presentation/Reflection)
Ask student to share their work, for any strategies that they used send the students who have grasped the concept back to their desks to
continue working.
