Selected Academic Projects 5th Year Part II
Inspired by the fast growing 3D technology in design industry, the Silvertown Central Arcade is a workshop and
business center provides facilities and opportunities for independent artists and designers to create, test and introduce
their ideas directly to the users as well as investors. At the same time, the center will encourage the local community to
interact with the creative industries in order to gain skills and adapt to new changes happen in the area.
The traditional arcades with their defined urban forms, generous natural lighting from above and intimate interior
spaces connected by series of internal streets, all together create a unique experience for users and visitors. The
repetitiveness of exposed structure defined by small units creates a rhythm for the building. On top of that, the
remaining structure of Millennium Mills and the shipping industry of the Docklands give inspiration for a defined outer
form enclosing lightweight structure which occupied by self-contained units to develop which allow internal spaces to
expand in capacity and changes in functional use in the future. As a whole, the architectural language and building
arrangement, from in-side-out, is a link between the lost memories of the past with the present development which will
form a strong frame for future generation to grow and adapt to further chances.
Selected Academic Projects 4th Year
Town centres and high streets have buildings and roads, but the spaces in-between
are what hold them together as a place the open spaces, streets, squares, green
spaces and the network of pavements and pedestrian thoroughfares that knit them
together. All too often, these spaces are used as no more than that thoroughfares
and we start to forget that they can be so much more.
Re-imagining urban spaces to help revitalise our high streets - Department for Communities and Local
Government - July 2012
The main concept is to turn the dull and inefficient Old Street Roundabout into an
exciting public area which not only provide more facilities for office workers and
visitors but also to create more spaces to promote public interaction for the local
community.
