Are We Europe Dutch Entry European Charlemagne Youth Prize 2017

Platform for young journalists Are We Europe has been selected as this years
Dutch entry for the European Charlemagne Youth Prize.

Are We Europe is an online multimedia platform founded by Ties Gijzel, Kyrill

Hartog, Marije Martens and Mick ter Reehorst. The project aims to encourage
young writers, journalists and other creatives to portray and their own, personal
experience of Europe. Articles, photo reports, documentaries and short films
become intimate, personal stories that document their search for a shared
Identity in a European context.

The jury, composed of members of the European Parliament Agnes Jongerius,

Jeroen Lenaers and Dutch Youth Representative European Affairs Tibbe van den
Nieuwenhuijzen have unanimously chosen to delegate Are We Europe. Jeroen
Lenaers:

Young people look to Europe through different lenses. They tend to

focus less on its politics, economics or institutions yet choose to grasp
many opportunities Europe offers. They enrol in studies or find
employment abroad, meeting new people and experiencing new cultures
in the process. This outward vision and attitude makes it so important
Are we Europe has been founded by young people themselves. By
writing articles and producing videos they put forward their very own
opinion on Europe.
