Occupation: - Theatre Advisor and Consultant in the Arts Centre, Bibliotheca
Alexandrina.
- Founder & Director of The Creative Forum For Independent Theatre
Groups (Europe- Mediterranean) since 2003.
- Founder & Director of the International Association For Creation And
Training (I-act).
- Founder of the Alternative Theatre Group", the first independent
Theatre group in Alexandria in 1989.
- Lecturer of stage Directing in the Faculty of Arts, Theatre Department,
University of Alexandria.
B. Major Achievements:

1989 Founded The Alternative Theatre Group, as an independent Theatre


Company, which is still active until present (2010); participating in
international festivals and performing on local and international levels.

2003 Established the Creative forum for independent theatre groups (Europe-
Mediterranean) in the Bibliotheca Alexandrina. The forums first edition
was in December 2003 and January 2004 and it has continued until present
(previous edition was in 2010).

2004 Founded the International association of Creation and Training


(I-act), as an international training association in Alexandria.

C. Academic Background:

Bachelor degree in Theatre, Faculty of Arts, Alexandria University,


1986.
Diploma in Theatre (two years) from The Higher Institute of
Dramatic Arts, Academy of Arts, Cairo, 1989.
Certificate of the preparatory year for higher studies, Department of
Theatre , Faculty of Arts, Alexandria University, 1990.
M. Phil (granted with Excellence) The Title of the Thesis is The
Techniques of stage directing in Actors Theatre, 1995.
Ph.D. (granted with Honored Excellence). The Title of the Thesis is
European Contemporary Trends in Stage Directing and its
influence on the Egyptian Theatre. 1998
D. Trainings, Workshops and International Festivals:

1991 A training grant for a period of seven weeks, from the Academy
for Education and Development in Washington DC.Participants
included; directors, playwrights, Actors, producers and
scenographers.
1993 A training grant from Goethe institute and the DAAD for a period
of twelve weeks in Berlin, Mannheim, Frankfurt and Wiesbaden.
The program included performance styles, acting methods,
dramaturgy, and Light designing.
1995 Conducted a workshop on Evaluating the Theatre projects and
production in cooperation with Mlheim an der ruhr theatre in
Germany.
2000 Conducted a workshop on forming and training the Actor in the
Jesuits cultural centre, Alexandria
2001 Organized an international seminar of the European Theatre in
cooperation with Goethe Institute, The Jesuits cultural center, and
the Faculty of Arts in Alexandria.
Organized a workshop entitled The Actor and the Voice Skills
conducted by Orlanda Cook. The workshop was held in the Jesuits
Cultural Center.
Organized a workshop entitled The Actor and The Physical Skills
conducted by Marianne Huraibi from the United States of America.
The workshop was held in the Jesuits Cultural Center.
Organized a workshop on Scenography, conducted by Nader
Omran. The workshop was held in the Jesuits Cultural Center.
Organized a workshop on production and stage management,
conducted by Mona Knio from Lebanon .The workshop was held in
the Jesuits Cultural Center.
Participated with the play Dance of the Death by August
Strindberg in Strindbergs festival in Stockholm, Sweden.
2002 Participated as an international Moderator in the Goteborg Dance
and Theatre Festival, Sweden.
Invited to Gibanica festival in Slovenia, to participate in the

conference of Supporting the notion of the Independent theatre in
Europe and the Mediterranean.
Acted as the Training and Educational Consultant for the project of
the Swedish Director Eva Bergmann entitled A midsummers night
dream, Alexandria and Goteborg.
2003 Invited to Bucharests Theatre Festival in Romania, to participate in
the project of building the independent theatre groups
network.(Europe-Mediterranean)
2004 Participated with the play Fausts Dreams in the Goteborg Dance
and Theatre Festival, Sweden.
Established the second edition of the Creative Forum for
independent theatre groups (Europe-Mediterranean) in the
Bibliotheca Alexandrina.
2005 Invited to Gibanica festival in Slovenia, to act as the head of the
Jury Committee.

2006 Invited to the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in


Glasgow in the context of Diaspora Project to stage his piece
Faust's Dreams with the final year students.

2008 Invited to Berliner Theater Treffen in the context of the


International visitors program.
2009 Invited to Theater Spektakel in Zurich as a Jury Committee.
Invited to Theater Festival Impulse (Bochum, Dsseldorf, and
Kln).
2010 Invited to Berliner Festspiele: MaerzMusik in the House of the
worlds culture in Berlin.
Invited the festival Theater der welt in Dssldorf, Kln, Mllheim
and Essen in the context of the International visitors program.
E. Publications and translations:

1989 Published through the general authority of books, my first one-act play
The Well, They came to us drowned and Dance of the scorpions with
an introduction by Nihad Soliha.
1991 Translated Athol Fugards play A place with the pigs, which was
published in the theatre magazine 1991.
