Introduction
1 Introduction
1.1 Overview of the Complete System
The Executive Server permits data to be recorded irrespective of whether such data
are messages, counters, measured value or maintenance information and whether
the data are order/batch-related or shift-related.
This manual describes the user interface of Work. The following diagram shows a
simplified overview of the complete system. Those areas handled in this manual are
highlighted.
Searching Messages
An empty screen form is output after the program start. In order that specific
analysis functions are available, you must establish the connection to the
Configuration Server that contains the data to be processed (refer to "Connect ...
(with Server)"
Note: The "ProLeiT" group name is specified as default entry during the installation. It
is possible that a different group name was chosen during the installation. You
then find the "Work" program under this group name.
Every user of Work must identify himself with a user name and password. The
settings made in the Windows User Manager of the server are used for the
acceptance of the user. The following cases exist:
If a valid account exists, the connection is established when you click the "OK"
button in the login dialog.
Note: If you do not enter a name and password, the account is used with which you
logged in on the machine currently started for Work.
Refresh interval If you have selected the "Current messages" option for the search for messages (refer to
for message list "Messages Selection Dialog Page"), you can select the "Update automatically" option on
the "Messages Results Dialog Page".
To permit this option to be selected, you must select the "in seconds" option and enter
the time in seconds to be used as time increment for the update in the associated field.
Value range: 2 to 3600 seconds
If you select the "no" option ", no automatic updating can be selected on the Messages
Results dialog page.
Default settings for the (only for databases as of V 7.00)
message profile for Select here a message profile used for searching message hitlists as default settings for
searching hitlists the "message profile" selection box (see Dialog for the evaluation of message hitlists).
If the default setting is to cause the evaluation of the messages for all message profiles,
select the "[No restriction]" entry.
The Work functionality can be influenced in the tree under Plant iT system settings,
"Configuration of the system applications" tab.

Change information/help
Change information/help
The information/help for the message object that a message created can be
changed.
The data will be loaded with the set filter criteria and displayed on the right-hand side in
the dialog.
Note: Table views of result data of acquisition classes can be copied into buffer.
For the "Current data" radio-button, the end of the time range is always the current
date and the current time. The start is not specified for "No restriction" and the most
recent data is always fetched. For the selection of a time interval such as "the last
24 hours", the start is determined by subtracting 24 hours from the current
timestamp.
For the "Time range" radio-button, the start and the end of the time range can be
set directly. Only the data that lies within this time range is displayed.
Note: The set time range is also evaluated for the "Display other selection criteria"
radio-button. Only those orders and shifts that lie within the above-selected time
range are offered as other selection criteria.
For the data displayed on the right-hand side, the start and end time are displayed in the
title line. Click this button to accept this time range in the "From" and "To" text fields.
The analysis is then performed for the selected search area using one of the
following criteria:
Order/batch Batch iT Only data for the selected order or batch are provided for selection
/ Liqu iT (refer to "Restriction by order/batch"). This tab page shows only Batch iT or Liqu iT
orders from the order list.
Order/batch Plant iT Only data for the selected order or batch are provided for selection
(refer to "Restriction by order/batch"). This tab page shows only Plant iT orders from the
order areas.
Shift Only data for the selected shift are provided for selection
(refer to "Restriction by shift".
Note: The lower area of the field contains additional dialog-specific search criteria that
are explained in conjunction with the dialog. Only the start date can be entered
for measured values (refer to Introduction to the Measured Values Dialog).
If you select the Order / Batch option for a search, the system provides you with the
capability to use only that data that belong to a specific order or batch for the
search.
Only those orders that lie in the time interval set with the "Time range" radio-button
are offered.
If you wish to fetch the data for a single batch, you must select the required batch in
the "Batch" selection box.
If you select the Shift option for a search, the system provides you with the
capability to use only that data that belong to a specific shift for the search.
Only those shifts that lie in the time interval selected with the "Time range" radio-
button are offered.
Once you have selected a date, the system checks which shifts ran on this date. All
shift numbers that ran on this date are provided in the "Shift number" selection box.
You must now select the shift in this selection box that is of interest. The time
displayed in the "Duration" field below the "Shift number" selection box applies to
the selected shift.
If a plus character is prefixed to a tree entry, lower-order objects can exist that are
displayed when you click this entry. If the entry has a minus character, the lower-
level objects are removed from the display after being clicked.
You can select the search area in the tree by selecting the corresponding entry with
the mouse. Because the tree is built hierarchically, the selection automatically
includes all lower-level objects.
You receive a report of all dialog-specific data that exist in the system.
For example, if you want to obtain the data for all counters that are stored in the system,
select the "Counters" dialog and then click on the database symbol.
For example, if you want to obtain the data for all counters that are stored for a
configuration, select the "Counters" dialog and then click on the server symbol.
For example, if you want to obtain the data for all counters that are stored for a local key,
select the "Counters" dialog and then click on the associated local key symbol.
Select object symbol (in the prev. picture, this would be, e.g. "PackingMachine" for
counter objects):
You receive a report of all dialog-specific data for this object.
For example, if you want to obtain the data for a specific counter, select the "Counters"
dialog and then click on the associated counter symbol.
Note: Only those objects relevant for the selected dialog are displayed. Because
every object can create messages, all object symbols are available for the
search for messages (refer to "Messages Selection Dialog Page").
Exception: Manual Input Objects
*) The measured value objects or stored views are directly selected for the search
for measured values (refer to "Selection" Dialog Page).
The list shows all the columns available for display. Those columns currently being
displayed are marked with a tick on the left.
Mark a line and click on the buttons to change the sequence of the columns.
You can also select the recording of different measuring points and show them
together in a view.
Definition of terms
Measuring point, measured value object
A measuring point is a physical measuring sensor in the plant that is used to record,
for example, temperatures, pressures, consumptions, etc. If this measuring point is
a measuring sensor that records analog data, an evaluation displays the measured
values as a curve. If this is a binary measuring sensor, the evaluation is displayed
as a binary track.
The associated objects of the "Measured Value" class are parameterized in the
Configuration Client. Specific parameters (measurement unit, sampling interval,
etc.) are also defined there.
Recording
A recording is defined as being a recorded set of measured values for a single
measured value object. This normally contains a reference to the measured value
object that recorded the measured values and the (network) path of the file with the
associated measured values.
View (measured value view)
A view is defined as being the composition of the curves of a maximum of 16
measuring points that are displayed together.
The settings for the display are also stored in the view (e.g. scale, line type and
color of the grid and curve, etc.)
For measured values, only the views and the measuring points stored in the
Configuration Client are relevant for the selection.
When you click the "view definition" icon in the tree, the names of all
previously saved views and created view groups will be displayed. You open the
view groups in the same way as the "view definition". The associated views are
then displayed.
If you always wish to display several measuring points together in a view, you can
create this view once, edit the output parameters for this view and possibly add a
more comprehensive comment, and store all this information together.
All previously saved views are displayed in the tree under the ("View
Definitions") symbol. Double-click on the symbol to display the list.
After clicking the icon for views, the "Display" toolbar button can be used to
load the view. The data is displayed on the Graphic, Characteristic Data and
Tabular tabs on the right-hand side.
Note: The measured value curves will be displayed only when a measured value view
is selected in the tree.
On this page, you can combine recordings (also for different measuring points) to
form a new view
Measuring points are indicated with the icon and with the technological name of
the measured value object. When you click this icon, the most recent 100
recordings available for this measuring point will be displayed.
Recordings have as icon; they are identified by the date and time of the
recording start and end. Only the recording start is shown for recordings that are
still running.
You can combine an (initially) temporary view from the available recordings in the
"Curves in view" window.
Legend: "Curves"
A dialog opens that can be used to search for the measured value objects. When you
click OK to close the dialog, the found measured value object will be selected in the tree.
Close the dialog.
The "Curves in view" page area (lower left) contains the recordings that are to be
displayed together in the current view. You can process this list using the following
buttons:
Use this button to save the temporary curve grouping. Only the measuring points are
saved, but not the currently selected recordings. If you reselect the saved view, the most
recent recordings for this measuring point will always be displayed.
Clicking the button opens the "Save view" dialog.

You can also group views on this page. The measuring points contained in the
"Curves in view" area on the Curves selection dialog page will be displayed when
the page opens. All changes of the view made here will also be displayed there
after the "OK" button is clicked to confirm.
You also determine here the appearance of the curves. You can also parameterize
whether the subtraction or addition of two measuring points is to be displayed.
This dialog displays only the measured value objects (measuring points) and not
the individual recordings in the tree.
Entries in the "2nd measuring point" column can only be made using "drag & drop".
This method must also be used to resort the measuring point sequence. To resort,
select the entry in the "1st measuring point" column that is to be moved and then
drag it to the required position while keeping the mouse button pressed.
Curve area margins: Use these parameters to determine the distance of the curve area from the page

the printout (also refer to the Margin setting for printing the curve" figure at the end of this
section).
Paper format: Select here the paper format for the print-out.
Landscape, portrait
Header, If you wish to define a header or footer line, you can select the font (see below).
Footer: There also exist several field functions ("macros") that receive their value only at the time
Line text, of printing.
Font The following field functions are currently defined (meaning and abbreviation):
Name of the view: @VIEW@
Name of logged on user: @USER@
Time: @TIME@
Date: @DATE@
Current page number: @PAGE@
Total page count: @MAXPAGE@
For example, to define the time of print-out in the header line, you can either enter the
"@TIME@" abbreviation as line text or drag & drop the corresponding abbreviation from
the list of the field functions into the required line.
Example: Header line:
"Print-out of the @VIEW@ view from @DATE@ at @TIME@"
"Print-out of the temperature view from 08.07.2000 at 13:23:00"
Footer line:
"Page @PAGE@ from @MAXPAGE@"
Font You can select here the font for the header and/or footer line. When you click the button,
a window to select the font and the font properties is displayed.
The margin settings for the curve area are interpreted as follows:
The margins specify the distance of the print area of the analog curves from the
edge margin. The height of the header and trailer lines is also added to the
upper and lower margin.
The margins do not apply to the complete page but only to the (printer-
dependent) printable area.
The margins do not affect the position of header/footer line, legend text, scale
labeling and binary tracks.
The page contains all curves and bits tracks of the current view parameterized as
"visible" (see Section "Curves in view").
The scale of the curves are displayed on the left-hand side, the curves are
displayed in the adjacent area and the lower area contains the binary tracks.
Data ruler To move the ruler, click with the right mouse button on the required position in the area
of the curve display. While keeping the right mouse pressed, you can move the ruler to
another position. The current ruler position is shown for the ruler on the horizontal axis.
The curve values for the current ruler position are shown in the legend.
This page contains the distinction numbers of all curves of the current view
parameterized as "visible" (see Section "Curves in view").
The following distinction numbers are displayed for every visible curve:
Measuring point
Minimum
Maximum
Average value
Standard deviation
Integral
This page contains the same measured values as in the graphical display (see
"Graphic) here, however, in tabular display. The scrollbar at the right-hand side can
be used to scroll along the time axis.
Every measuring point that was recorded analog will be displayed in its own
column. For binary recorded measuring points, a column is used for each bit.
Because measuring points with different sampling intervals can belong to a view,
the largest common denominator (LCD) of the sampling intervals is used as time
grid. This can mean that a value does not necessarily exist for a measuring point for
each displayed time (slower sampling interval). Consequently, the previously valid
value is output in this case. This corresponds to the representation as staircase
curve in the graphical view.
4 Searching Messages
4.1 Introduction to the Messages Dialog
You can use this dialog to display the current messages. The query result also
contains detailed information. The dialog consists of the pages:
Selection Selection of the output options for the messages.

This reference is needed, for example, to use the ConfirmSingleMessage method of the
OLE interface to acknowledge a message.
This column is only of interest to users of programming interfaces and so not displayed
by default.
Color code Work colors all messages corresponding to the parameterized message color. The color
code shows the RGB-value of this color.
This column is only of interest to users of programming interfaces and so not displayed
by default.
Object key The Object Key column shows the unique reference of an object.
For example, to restrict the IDS_GETMSGARCHIVE query of the OLE interface to
search for a single object, the object key can be passed as "nDataXLink" parameter.
This column is only of interest to users of programming interfaces and so not displayed
by default.
K The character "x" indicates that a comment for the current message is present (see
Section "Comment Dialog Page"").
Information The character "x" indicates that information for the current message is present (see
Section "Info/Help Dialog Page").

the Messages Selection Dialog Page and have entered a time increment in the "Options"
Dialog.
If you select this option, the display will be updated automatically in the time increment
specified there.
Note: If an error occurs while fetching data, the automatic update is inactive for the
time interval of 5 minutes. This ensures the further operability of the program,
even, in particular, for continuing connection problems.
Clicking the "Refresh" button or the renewed clicking of the "Auto refresh" option
sets the automatic updating. This is always performed immediately.
If you have not selected any message or if multiple messages have been selected
concurrently, the dialog page does not contain any data.
Sorting You specify the type of the hitlist in the "Sort criteria" selection box. You can choose
between the following options:
Message countThe most frequently occurring messages will be evaluated.
Total durationThe messages present for the longest period of time will be evaluated.

are displayed in the right-hand area of the dialog page. If you change the search
criteria, you must once again click this button to refresh the display.
You see the actual "hitlist" in the upper area. The area below contains the list of the
individual messages for the entry selected above. This list is available only when
this was parameterized in the Configuration Client.
You can use this dialog to search for pending maintenance tasks. It provides the
capability of a fast selection for a target time range and a fast selection for a degree
of wear.
The displayed maintenance tasks can be edited. To do this, mark the appropriate
line and click the "Edit" button in the menu. The "Search for maintenance tasks"
dialog opens in which the performed maintenance work can be confirmed and new
setpoints set for the next maintenance.
If you want to use as filter the set time range specified for "Time range" radio-button, you
must close the "Display other selection criteria" button.
Evaluation mode You specify in the evaluation mode whether only those dates are to be used that refer to
a major or minor maintenance or whether both minor and major maintenance work are to
be taken into consideration. The selection box contains the following entries:
All maintenance tasks
Pending major maintenance tasks
Pending minor maintenance tasks
Performed major maintenance tasks
Performed minor maintenance tasks

manual input object is created.
Discard all changes and close the "settings for order/batch/shift" dialog.
Once all settings have been performed in the "Create new data record" dialog and
the data record has been created, the properties (e.g. upper/lower bound, etc.) of
the values to be acquired must be configured.
In this case, the operator dialog for the associated manual input class is displayed
automatically after the data record has been created. The actual operator dialog is
specified in the Configuration Client when the manual input class is configured.
If you do not use any specific operator dialog, the standard operator dialog with the
data of the newly created data record is displayed. This dialog is described in detail
in the "Standard Operator Dialog for Manual Input Classes" section.
Figure 36 Example: "Information" page of the standard operator dialog with the data for
the newly created data record
Important: The operator dialog to be used is specified in the Configuration Client during the
configuring of a manual input class. The operator dialog then applies to all
manual input objects of this class.
It is possible that class-specific operator dialogs have been set for one or more
manual input classes. In this case, the following description either does not
apply or applies only partially.
Thus, if you see changed or completely different dialogs after calling the
operator dialog, you may require a description of the class-specific dialog. In
this case, consult the engineer who created the dialog.
Warning: The following sections describe only the individual pages of the standard
operator dialog.
The standard operator dialog for manual input classes consists of the
following pages:
"Information for the Data Input" page"
This page contains the object name of the manual input object for which the data
record has been created and information concerning the displayed data record.
Click the button (next to "Update") to display the "Change data record" dialog.
You can use this dialog to change the acquisition time, the designation and the
comment (information/help) for the current data record.
Object name Name of the manual input object for which the data record has been
created.
Name The character string to be used as an identification characteristic for
a data record.
Acquisition time The acquisition time is the time when the acquired data were
produced. For example, the time of taking the sample for sample
measured values.
Info/help Comment for the data record.
Save the changes and close the dialog.
Note: The order, batch, shift and start time folders are displayed only when the data
record has been assigned to an order, batch or shift (refer to the "Create a New
Data Record for a Manual Input Object" section).
Display the "Create new data record" dialog. This dialog can be used to create a new
data record for the selected object. This dialog is described in the "Create a New Data
Record for a Manual Input Object" section.
Close the standard operator dialog.
Use the Configuration Client to configure the manual input classes and the manual
input objects. The "Data input" page shows the properties that have been
configured there as "attribute" for the manual input class associated with the
manual input object. These properties can differ for each class.
The "Data input" page of the standard operator dialog shows the values for the
parameterized properties, and allows the initial values to be entered or existing
values changed. The Notes column can be used to enter a comment for each
change.
All table cells shown with a white background can be edited; inputs are blocked for
all other cells. Changes can only be made when the operator has the appropriate
authorization, otherwise an error message will be issued.
If read authorizations for complete manual input or for the property have been
assigned during the configuration, the "******" character string will be displayed
instead of the values.
Table columns:
Property Various properties may have been parameterized for a manual input class. The table
displays a data record for each property.
Value Value of the property. The data type can be numeric, alphanumeric, a character string, a
Boolean value or an Enum value. Each property has exactly one data type that can be
set in the Plant iT Configuration Client. The cell with the value is normally empty in the
case of a new data record, unless a default value has been parameterized for the
property. In this case, the default value is displayed instead of an empty cell. If the value
exceeds the upper or lower bound, it will be displayed in red.
Unit This specifies the unit for the value of the property.
Lower bound/ The upper and lower bound for a numeric property parameterized in the Plant iT
Upper bound Configuration Client. If no bounds have been parameterized, the associated cells remain
empty. If a value entered in the column value exceeds these bounds, it will be displayed
in red.
Note You can store a note in the Note column to be used for each change of the value of a
property. This note will be displayed in the Note field of the "Input Report" page when the
property is selected.
Click in the appropriate field of the "Note" column to display the complete note or to edit
the note. A button to change/enter the note will be displayed.
Title line Name of the property and date of the last change made to the note.
Save the changes and close the dialog.
Discard all changes made in the dialog and reload the dialog.
The "Input Report" page lists all value changes made to the properties. Thus, you
can determine when and who changed a property value.
Normally a property value is entered just once. However, should it transpire that the
entered value was not correct, it can be changed on the "Data Input" page. Inputs
cannot be made on the "Input Report" page.
Table columns:
Time Time when a property was changed. Either the value or the comment for a property may
have changed.
Property Name of the property associated with the change.
Value Value of the property at the time of making the change. If a numeric value violates the
lower or upper bound, it will be displayed in red.
Unit Specify the unit for the value of the property.
Revision Number of changes made to a property. Update 0 means that the value was written as
default value when the data record was created. Update 1 corresponds to the initial input
for a value.
Lower bound/ The lower and upper bound parameterized in the Configuration Client for a numeric
Upper bound property.
Note This specifies whether a comment has been written for the change of a property value. If
a comment exists, it will be displayed in the lower text field for the selected property.
User Name of the Plant iT user who made the change.
Information field Note for the selected property.
Reload all data.
This page displays the comment entered in the Configuration Client for a manual
input object. The comment can be changed in the text field and saved. The
changes are then also displayed in the Configuration Client for the associated
manual input object.
Discard all changes made in the dialog and reload the dialog.
You can use this dialog to query all existing counters, irrespective of whether the
counters count consumption of, for example, water, energy, packing material,
manufactured product quantity, etc.
You can use this dialog to query all available data for objects of the "Integer
numbers" class.
You can use this dialog to query all available data for objects of the "Floating-point
numbers" class.
You can use this dialog to query all available data for objects of the "Character
strings" class.
You can use these menu items to edit the materials management as in the Plant iT
Manager.
