Christian Worldview and Business Administration
The world of business administration covers a vast amount of area, having a direct
influence over several different kinds of corporations and fields of study. As a business major,
the job opportunities that are available offer a promising future and great rewards but also expose
potential issues that could conflict with my Christian worldview. In the business field, my beliefs
will have a direct influence over how I accomplish my work, and this brings the potential of
conflict.
Business administration is not always what it seemsit is not always man with a sharp
suit and briefcase, drowning in stacks of papers; rather, it is capable of being used to manage
large corporations and bring people together to create effective teams in the workplace. After
studying business administration for two years, it became obvious to me that this view doesnt
capture the complexity and diversity this major encompasses. Ive grown to appreciate the large
effect business administration plays in society and continue to learn more about it every day.
My love for business comes from watching the way my father started his own business
and the passion he holds for the work he does. Those in the business field require a special kind
of personalityone that is personable, flexible, and friendly. A good businessman not only
works well with others but also conducts himself in a way that improves the company. Through
working for my father for several years, his example has helped form my attitude and character
which has given me a drive towards studying business as a career. A Biblical worldview, an
attribute my father instilled in me, has strengthened my ability to lead people and accomplish
imitate Christ in the work one accomplishes. In his article, Taking Christ into the

Workplace,,Burke-Sivers says, At work, Christians can explain their faith to others confidently
and give attractive examples of the Christian lifeeven in just doing their jobs well (Burke-
Sivers). Many people study business for different reasons. A widespread reason for having a
career in business is attaining a high position and earning a large income. However, achieving
this goal may come at the cost of ones closest relationships and potentially personal values.
From a Christian worldview, the desire to work towards a high position or even make a lot of
money is not necessarily wrong, but could be dangerous. Having work as ones highest priority is
a form of idolatry and should be avoided at all costs. Upholding a Christian worldview in the
workplace reflects Christ to those with whom one is working. Therefore, rather than performing
exceptionally well to gain worldly praise, one should complete tasks to glorify God in every way.
Sometimes, people may get upset or offended when one tries to incorporate Biblical beliefs with
his or her work, which leads to the next point regarding conflicts between the Christian faith and
greatly from the rest of the world. In the business world, there are several work environments
that are not compatible with a Christian worldview. If a company asks someone to lie to
customers to cover up a problem or to make the company look better, one holding a Christian
worldview must choose to uphold his or her beliefs or submit to the company. If the products or
services of a company violate what God puts forth in His commandments, then a Christian
businessman should not be involved with that company. Even in companies that are perfectly
compatible with a Christian worldview, situations can always arise that give way to sin. Although
it is important for those who are Christians to reject the beliefs of those opposed to Christ, it is
also a Christians duty to lead them in the direction of Christ and treat them with absolute
respect. In the Bible, Paul says in Romans, On the contrary: if your enemy is hungry, feed him;

if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his
head. Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good (New International Version,
Rom. 12:20-21). To make a difference in the business workplace, one must settle conflicts
through the imitation of Christ and through confronting wrongdoing with Biblical teaching.
No matter the field one chooses to have a career in, he or she can bring the worldview of
Christ with them into that field. The opportunities that are available to share Christs message
through ones work is an effective way to reach sinners. There will always be conflict between
Gods children and those who are not, but it is every Christians duty to make disciples of Christ
and to bring Him glory. Glorifying God through business administration offers great potential to
many believers and can challenge how one incorporates his or her beliefs into the workplace.
