Recommendation

1. With more time, the students may be able to create a better project.
2. Guidance on where to buy the parts and how much they cost may help the
students to best plan the project.
3. The traffic control system may be improved with sensors during off-peak
hours.
4. Other than sensors, a camera system can be used with image processing to
best control the traffic lights. A fuzzy logic controller can count the number
of cars at a traffic light and allow the lane with most cars to go assuming the
lane ahead is clear.
5. Another improvement would be to control traffic lights in the following
junctions too. By creating a wave of green lights, cars would be able to pass
through all junctions instead of being stuck in stop and go traffic.
6. Traffic light control system can be combined with other traffic control systems
such as traffic diversion to reduce congestion. Heavier vehicles such as lorries
and busses can be diverted into different lanes.
7. Education for road users will also be useful in reducing traffic congestion.
Users who stop in the middle of the road blocking other users also are a large
cause of congestion.
8. Construction of flyovers and underground tunnels will also help to mitigate
road congestion. However, the associated cost is very high and more
congestion is caused before the work is done.
