Web 2.0 Tools to Support Collaborative learning

Brief instructions of 1.Go to http://cosketch.com/
how to use the tool 2.Click on the Create New Sketch button in the green Start Here box
3.The new CoSketch window has a unique URL address and can be shared for
collaborative access to the project.
4.There is a red box at the bottom of the screen that users can use to communicate with
their group members.
5.To upload an image click the upload image button on the tool bar on the left side of the
page
6.Click on the Choose File button
7.In the new window choose a file from your computer to upload an click the open button
8.A thumb nail of your picture will appear directly below the choose file button
9.To use that photo click on the blue text that says use as BG
10.Using the tools in the toolbar, students can add lines, shapes, text and stamps to any
image.
11.When the image is ready to be saved click on the text Save sketch as embeddable
image in the left side toolbar.
12.On the next page you can right click the image and click save as to save the completed
image or copy the embed code(s) to imbed if submitting digitally

Ideas for how the tool In Science 5.5 b) classification of organisms using physical characteristics, body structures,
can be used in PK-12 and behavior of the organism; students could collaborate to complete a project where
several organisms are identified and classified using the built in writing and text tools. This
tool would be good in any science lesson where a large number of items need to be
identified.

In History & Social Sciences 3.5 a) a) positioning and labeling the seven continents and
five oceans to create a world map. Students could collaborate to label the continents and
oceans on a world map. This tool could also be useful in almost any geography lesson
where a large number of items need to be identified on a map.

In US History to 1865, USI.9 The student will demonstrate knowledge of the causes, major
events, and effects of the Civil War by: e) using maps to explain critical developments in
the war, including major battles. Students could collaborate to identify the locations of the
major battles of the civil war and labeling them with the name of the location and the
date(s) of the battles. They could also trace the movements of the troops on the maps as
they label the areas of each battle.

Positives and Positives: 1) Simple to use 2) Doesnt require an account or sign up 3) Participants can chat

questions, multiple choice questions or they can use this tool to take polls.

Ideas for how the tool In Math 1.6 The student will create and solve one-step story and picture problems using
can be used in PK-12 basic addition facts with sums to 18 or less and the corresponding subtraction facts. The
teacher could have groups create an addition story using the addition story tool.

In Health 3.1 The student will explain that health habits and practices impact personal
growth and development. d) Identify healthy food and beverage choices based on
nutritional content. Students could work in small groups to create lists of healthy food
choices. They could accomplish this face to face or over the computer round robin style.
After that activity, the teacher could post the nutritional information for the healthy food
choices and post them next to unhealthy choices for comparison.

In History & Social Sciences 3.1 The student will explain how the contributions of ancient
Greece and Rome have influenced the present world in terms of architecture, government
(direct and representative democracy), and sports. Students could be given a list of
contributions of the Greeks and Romans and work together to identify which
accomplishment belongs to which civilization. The teacher can give examples of each of
these prior to or after the activity and the final product can be used by the students for study
material.

Positives and Positives: 1) The sight has topics arranged by subject, 2) There are topics grouped by grade

how to use the tool 2. Right away it asks you to create an account with your name, email address, and
password. So create an account.
3. On the left side of the screen you will see create room. Click it.
4. If you are working with a group or partner you can click on room options at the
top, then you can click invite to invite your peers.
5. On the right side of the screen there is a chat, and if you want you can assign
roles for your peers there.
6. On the screen there is a right side tool bar, this is where you can draw, type,
highlight, etc.
7. On the top tool bar you can undo, put a .pdf document in, etc.
8. You can also lock in the assignment so no one can mess up the assignment
your group will be working on.
9. Also on the right side tool bar, if you click the assets tab at the top, this is the
area where you can upload different pictures or documents the use as

backgrounds.
10.If youd like to take a snapshot of your image there is a camera icon at the top
of the screen. If you click it, your image will open in a new tab where you can save
it.

Ideas for how the tool In Science K.11 The student will investigate and understand that materials can be reused,
can be used in PK-12 recycled, and conserved. Key concepts include; a) materials and objects can be used over
and over again; b) everyday materials can be recycled. : The teacher could have groups of
students collaborate to identify items in a picture of mixed trash and recyclables and ask
them to circle recyclable materials and then discuss with each other why they believe the
item to be reusable.

In Math 5.12 The student will classify; a) angles as right, acute, obtuse, or straight; and b)
triangles as right, acute, obtuse, equilateral, scalene, or isosceles. In this lesson the teacher
could have small groups work together to identify different angles and triangles. The
students can discuss with their group their classifications to enhance their understanding of
the characteristics of each angle/triangle. Groups could also use scribbler to sketch their
own examples of each angle/triangle.

In Virginia and United States Government GOVT.7 The student will demonstrate
knowledge of the organization and powers of the national
Government by; a) examining the legislative, executive, and judicial branches b) analyzing
the relationships among the three branches in a system of checks and balances c) examining
the ways individuals and groups exert influence on the national government. The teacher
could list different responsibilities of the different branches of the government. Students
working in groups could discuss each answer choice and circle them using an answer key
uploaded on scribbler. The group with the highest number of correct answers wins.

Positives and Positives: 1) Easy to use 2) Teachers/students can upload their own images 3) Work is easy

3. Erase all of the texts in the middle page so you can start typing whatever you
want.
4. Where listed as Name type in your name. Ex. Taylor
5. Under either where you type your name, there is an invite highlighted to invite
whoever you want in the chat.
6. Click invite to send out invitation to those who you would like to join you.
7. At the bottom right corner of the website, there is a chat option to separately
communicate with whoever you invited.
8. At the top of the page there are different options you can play with such as color.

clarify meanings of unfamiliar words. b) Use knowledge of roots, affixes, synonyms,
antonyms, and homophones.c) Use word-reference materials, including the glossary,
dictionary, and thesaurus.d) Develop vocabulary by listening to and reading a variety of
texts. Students could be broken up into groups and assigned a chapter to read. As they
read, group members can add unfamiliar words to a list. When they are done reading,
students can work together to define the unfamiliar words. They can identify the root
words and use dictionaries and thesauruses to fined synonyms and antonyms, helping
to increase their vocabulary.

In English 5.8 The student will edit writing for correct grammar, capitalization, spelling,
punctuation, sentence structure, and paragraphing. Students working in groups can
take an unedited paragraph(s) and edit them for punctuation, spelling, capitalization
and grammar. This tool can be used to meet any or all of letters a-k in the English 5.8
SOL.

Positives and Positives: 1) Each author gets their own highlighter color so you can easily tell each
