Assessment Plan Summary:
Entry level
Quickwrite: Students will write down everything they know about or associate with the
solar system, sun, earth, and moon. They will share this with a partner
Brainstorm: The teacher will draw a brainstorm visual on the board using the students
responses.
Word finder puzzle: The students will complete an online word finder puzzle containing
vocabulary relevant to the lesson.
Formative
K-W-L: Students will complete a K-W-L chart and share one item from their want to
know section. The teacher will use the responses to lead a discussion.
Diagram: Students will complete a diagram showing all of the moons phases. Students
will label each phase accordingly.
Group Discussion: Students will engage in a group discussion about the tilt of the earth
and how this tilt causes the four seasons. The teacher will engage with each group
assessing understanding of the topic.
Quiz: Students will complete an online quiz from Quizlet. It will be ten questions long,
and contain questions from each topic covered
Summative:
Presentation: Students will be paired with a partner and choose from two topics:
evolution of the solar system and the movement of the earth and sun, or on the phases of
the moon and how the axial tilt causes the four seasons. Students will use technology,
such as powerpoint, to create short presentation for the class.
End of unit exam: Students will take end of unit exam consisting of 30 multiple choice
questions and two written response questions.
