A. Preliminaries
Good morning! I am Ms. Katrin B. Lutao,
your English teacher today. First lets
have a weather check. Kindly tell me
your moods today. If your mood is rainy,
then that means something is bothering
you. If your mood is sunny, then you are
ready to actively participate and will be
attentive.
Its sunny because I had a good sleep

today to you.
Thats nice to hear. _____________, is it
sunny or rainy for you? Unlike _________, it is rainy because I
am nervous because we have a quiz
late in Mathematics. But I promise to
still be participative in your class.
I hope your anxiety about that quiz will
be lessened as we have our lesson
today.

B. Motivation
Class, we are going to have an activity
which you will surely enjoy. This is
called Charade. Let me divide you in
two groups. You will participate in a
game wherein concepts are to be acted
out by representatives without using
words or even sign language and their
respective groups will guess the
concept/s. You are only given fifteen Yes, Maam!
(15) seconds to identify the word.
Are you ready?

(Concepts/Words are: Duterte, Vice

Ganda, Mayon Volcano, Jeepney, Ice
Cream)

C. Lesson Proper
Last time class you have learned about
verbal communication. Today lets
discuss nonverbal communication and
know its types.

Nonverbal Communication is a form of

communication without the use of
words. What do you think are the
actions of humans that involve
nonverbal communication?

(Teacher presents the graphic organizer

with pictures to represent the types of Maam, staring at a person or directly
nonverbal communication.) looking at the other persons eye like

(Other responses on eye contact)

A common facial expression is a smile.

You are correct! Anything else? When you smile to someone, it means
that you are happy to see them.
How about facial expressions? What are
the most common facial expressions
that you know? How are they related to
our feelings and emotions?

That is a good example. Smiling may

joy about something.

discuss about the other types.)

Any other questions regarding these

types of nonverbal communication? As per experience, sometimes saying
something is difficult because you

regarding this famous saying, Action
speaks louder than words.
You have a point. Although that is the
case, it would still be ideal if both words
and actions are used to communicate
with people so that you can get across
your meaning.

E. Application
In small groups, I want you to deliver
effectively the dramatic lines that you
will randomly pick. Make use of
appropriate eye contact, gestures, facial
expressions, body language, etc. in this
activity.
V. ASSESSMENT

Learners in small groups must prepare and present a silent advertisement of a

new product. The group/s assigned will guess the product and explain how they
were able to understand the advertisement. You are given 15 minutes to
prepare.

VI. ASSIGNMENT

Watch an episode of the animated cartoon Larva or Mr. Bean. In a half sheet
of paper, write a 2-paragraph analysis that discusses how nonverbal
communication is evident in the cartoon.
