1.0 SCOPE

The scope of this procedure is to define the minimum requirement for surface preparation and pain repair /
touch up work on paint /intumescent damaged surface of existing structural steel works at site.

2.0 PURPOSE

The Purpose of this procedure is to outlines the general requirements for the repair and touch up of painted
/coated surfaces at site.

5.0 PROCEDURE:

Method statement for Repair of damages up to bare steel.

Surface Preparation

Identify the paint damage area


All surrounding surface should be clean, dry and free from contamination. Prior to paint
application all surfaces should be assessed and treated in accordance with ISO 8504:2000. Dry
bristle brushing will normally be adequate for accumulated dirt.
With a proper Hand & power tool clean to a minimum St3 (ISO 8501-1:2007) or SSPC-
SP2/SSPC SP-3.
Feather the Edges by emery paper over a distance of 50mm

Primer coat application

Surface Tolerant Epoxy Interseal 670 HS be used as a touch up primer.


Thickness of primer coat should be 75-100 Microns.
Multiple coat application may require achieving above thickness by brush/roller.
Proper over coating intervals and other weather conditions should be maintained as per data
sheet requirements.
Never use any materials after Pot Life period
Complete repair works to be carried out by a qualified experienced painter under proper
supervision.

Intumescent coat application

Apply Intumescent paint Interchar 2060.


Thickness of Intumescent should be as per loading chart.
Multiple coat application may require achieving above thickness by roller/putty blade.
Proper over coating intervals and other weather conditions should be maintained as per data
sheet requirements.
Complete repair works to be carried out by a qualified experienced painter under proper
supervision.

Top coat Application

After complete curing of Intumescent coat, the surrounding area from any kind of dirt
contaminations by using a bristle brushing. If needed a mild sanding with emery paper also
recommended.
Apply topcoat Interthane 990SG by roller to achieve the required DFT of 100 microns.
Suitable low feather roller and proper thinning is required to match existing finish.
Proper over coating intervals and other weather conditions should be maintained as per data
sheet requirements.
Complete repair works to be carried out by a qualified experienced painter under proper
supervision.
