Senior Government
Assignment #1 : Partisan policies
Social security

In the world of politics and through the history of United States there are two
very essential concepts that govern political thoughts and create policies. These
two politics are known as Liberalism and Conservatism, their views and the
significance of the points are entirely different and this might be the main reason
why there are two huge groups of people, who supports whether Liberalism or
Conservatism. But both sides may argue, that their candidates have the ideology
which will help to move country forward , to build strong economy, strong nation ,
and to be one more step closer to the victory in every situation. The both sides have
their own points of view with differents beliefs and opportunities, but one of the
main difference can be consider their believes about the Social Security system
which was signed in august by FDR and was known as Social Security Act of
1935, which guaranteed pensions to millions of americans , set up a system of
unemployment insurances and stipulates that the federal government would help
care for dependent children and disabled. This act was one of the New Deal
programs which main purpose was to end the great depression.
Liberalism as left side, supports more active role of the government, they
believe that the government should take strong and effective actions to solve
economic and social problems arise during this time period. They believe it is the
governments obligation and should become the purpose to enhance opportunities
for the economic and social equality of all individuals, they should fight to achieve
and help minorities and the disadvantaged and to regulate the whole system which
leds to improve the economy for the whole country and states. While the liberalism
on the left side, Conservatives are on the right side (right wing party) and their
appearances are extremely opposite . Conservatives believe in limited
government , personal responsibility that every individual is responsible for his
own well being , free markets, individual liberty, traditional american values and
strong national defence.
Both left and right sides may have the debates about the social security system
while the Liberals think that the Social Security system should be protected at all
costs because the main purpose of this program is to provide all the available needs
as well as safety net for all the nation. Changing the system would cause a
reduction in benefits and many people would suffer as a result. As liberals think
they should come up with the ideas how to increase the benefits of this program
,because they support the more active role of government and this will be one of
the significant issue to be solved but on the other hand as Wall Street Journal
reports a call from liberals in congress to increase the social security benefits will
cause some troubles for Hillary Clinton. But left side still stays in their position
with the same argument that Social Security benefits are meager and that people in
retirement need more, not less, money. Some also contend that concerns about the
program's solvency are exaggerated and inside the Democratic Party, that argument
is gaining traction. Before the presidential election ,the Democratic candidate
Hillary Clinton explained the importance of Social Security and she said that
social security is not just a program it's a promise, promise that she will defend it
against the Republican attacks. Hillary Clinton believes that Social Security must
remain what it has always been: a rock-solid benefit that seniors can always rely on
. She fought against the Republicans about the Social Security when she was a
senator and throughout her career she will fight them as president. Expand Social
Security for those who need it most and who are treated unfairly by the current
system.
On the other hand while Democrats are thinking about the significance of this
social security system Republicans have entirely different ideas and ways to solve
the problems about Social Security. Their main claim is that this system is in a
serious trouble and It needs major changes because of the financially
sustainability. It will turn into a big problem for the country as well as for people if
nothing will be done. The solution from this problem seems easy for them because
they think that social security should be more efficient and they should allow
individuals to maintain their own savings. The Republicans still stay in their
position to cut the benefits, to raise the retirement age , to privatize and every
possible ways reduce the government role in this program because as they claim
everyone is responsible for their own well being.
American people fully recognize the importance and effectiveness of social
security system because, it is the program of secure and fair source of retirement
income. From my point of view Social security has long been the United States
government's most popular and successful program by providing the economic
protection for United States citizens, i am totally agree and support the Democrats
in this issue because they understand the needs of this system and they know that
this program was created exactly for the people who needs help and they cannot
cut the benefits of or just abolish this system. People rely on them as well as they
rely on people, because only citizens of this country will decide whether they will
win the presidential election or not. On the other hand Republicans don't think
about the Social Security as an importance of the country based on their limited
government. Nowadays their main purpose is how to make America great again.
As a conclusion both sides have their own goals to build the strong country and
plan how to move forward , but they should know that the government should take
care of their citizens and provide all the necessary programs or the system to help
the people and to strengthen the country.
