TYPES OF HAMMER USED IN MARINE

STRUCTURES DRIVING

- Diesel
The diesel pile hammer is an extremely rugged and reliable impact hammer.
They are used for driving on different pile types like batter piles ,H-beams, sheet piles
as well as for driving piles in bearing layers or for the determination of pile load
capacity. Diesel pile hammers can be used in all displaceable soils.

Diesel pile hammers are single acting free fall hammers utilizing the principle
of impact atomization. The self-ignition of the compressed fuel/air mixture is used to
fire the hammer. The pile helmet is pressed onto the pile before the piston strikes, due
to the compressed air in the cylinder. Consequently damages to the pile heads are
reduced. Modern diesel pile hammers are equipped with adjustable fuel pump for
regulating the stroke of the piston and therefore the impact energy. This is a particular
advantage when soil formations change. Optionally a hydraulically actuated fuel
pump with infinite settings is available. The diesel pile hammer utilizes a tripping
device to lift the piston and start the hammer. For hydraulic carriers also hydraulic
tripping device is obtainable.

- Vertical Travel Lead Systems

The tetrahedral design makes this vertical travel lead stronger, lighter and
more capable of handling bending, torque and compression than any other lead
system. This design is available in two standard sizes that are compatible with most
diesel, hydraulic impact and vibratory hammers weighing up to 40,000 lbs. The
greater strength to weight ratio enables it to handle pile in excess of 200 feet in length.
Due to its lighter weight, it allows the utilization of smaller and less expensive crane
equipment and provides increased operating range for the crane, so more pile can be
driven from a single crane position.

Vertical travel fixed leads are fabricated from A-500 grade tubing for
maximum strength and impact resistance. The four main cords are connected by a
series of square tube lacings patterned and welded in a tetrahedral design to
geometrically provide performance properties far exceeding those of other types of
leads weighing two and three times as much. The standard sizes weigh 75 and 100
pounds per lineal foot. Larger sizes are available on special order.
The basic vertical travel fixed lead is available in 10, 15 and 20 foot sections
that can be used in any combination to build the lead length required. Fixed leads are
manufactured in precision fixtures to assure interchangeability between old and new
sections. All lead sections and accessory equipment utilizes exclusive cast steel joints.
The mail and female joints are flush pin connected, leaving a smooth hammer guide
track on the main cords.

- Hydraulic
Standard on all medium and large hydraulic hammers, our shock-absorbing
mounting bracket uses special heavy-duty rubber mounts to absorb shock, recoil, and
impulse vibration. The unique one-piece design eliminates the need for mechanical
springs and overly heavy mounting brackets. The net result is minimization of
machine wear and improved operator comfort for greater reliability and productivity.
A grease port is provided for automatic and/or manual greasing of the
demolition tool. This prevents damage or premature wear caused by a lack of grease.
Hydraulic breakers are not meant to have an easy life. They occasionally need to be
rebuilt. When the hammer body is involved

- Vibratory
A vibratory hammer drives a pile through a combination of driving force, frequency,
amplitude, and free-hanging weight. The driving force of a hammer is determined by
its eccentric moment & steady-state frequency.
