Draw Earth as seen from space. Our Sun is a medium hot star and has a
yellow colour.
Very hot stars are blue. Cool stars are red.
Complete the graph to show the different
temperatures where one square equals
1000degrees Celsius.

A total eclipse of the Sun is very rare.

My Shadow By Robert Louis Stevenson

I have a little shadow that goes in and out with me, And what can be the use of him is more than I can see.
He is very, very like me from the heels up to the head; And I see him jump before me, when I jump into my
bed.

What do you think the poem tells us about shadows?

Predict: where the shadows will be and draw them.

Earth and Space Science: Making shadows Term 4 Week 5
We are learning that the relationship between the earth and the sun causes shadows and Earths rotation on its axis causes regular
changes, including night and day.
Watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1SN1BOpLZAs
Any light source will give a shadow. We will use a torch as our light source.
Make a 3 cm high model out of plasticine. Put your model in the middle of your page on the cross.
I made a model of
Move your torch across your page from SUN RISE to SUN SET. Trace around the shadow at least four times. Take your torch over your
model. Measure the length of each of your shadows and write the length.

SET RISE

Answer these questions-
What was the longest shadow length? ..When was the shadow the longest? ..
What was the shortest length? ..When was the shadow the shortest?
What happened to the length of the shadow as the torch moved from SUN RISE to SUN SET? What pattern did the shadows
make?..

Earth and space sciences The Earth Revolving and Rotating Week 6 Term 4
What do you know about night and day on Earth?
Write and draw

We will use a lamp and our earth globe to model the rotation and revolution of Earth.

What do you know about why there are different seasons on Earth?
Write and draw

Earth and space sciences: Meteor Crater Investigation Week7 and 8 Term 4

Achievement standard: pose questions, and predict the outcomes of investigations, . collect and
present observations, suggest possible reasons fore their findings, describe how safety and fairness was
used

How can we have a science investigation on the Sun, Earth and Moon? [Think of
Goldilocks and the three bears!]
The Sun is too hot for us to use as a model for a science investigation.
The Earth is too cold but our Moon is just right for some science investigations.

Our Moon has craters. Do you know how they were formed?
We are going to make craters by dropping objects onto our Moon.

Questions we can ask about making craters.

What happens to the crater on the Moon when we change the type of soil?

What happens to the crater on the Moon when we change .

What happens to the crater on the Moon when we change .

Our class question.

What happens to the crater when we change the mass of meteor?

Our science planning

We are going to change . We are going to keep the We are going to measure our
same .. results by

The meteor Size of meteor Depth of crater

Height of drop
Depth of soil Width of crater
Soil flat
Other observations

Were your observations same or different to your prediction?

What made a difference to our type of craters?

What made our investigation a fair test?

How did your group and the whole class stay safe?

Use the pictures provided to make a detailed drawing of our Moon.

colours to show the colours in
