To whom it may concern:

This correspondence is in regards to Taylor Weidner a University of Arizona BSN student

graduating in the spring class 2017. I am honored to write this letter of recommendation for
Taylor a competitive applicant for a new graduate registered nurse position. I had the pleasure to
work with Taylor for 15 weeks during spring 2017 as she was a clinical student in NURS 479
Transition to the Professional Nursing Role as well as mentor academically in NURS 478
Nursing Leadership and Management in Health Systems. I have been impressed with Taylors
clinical abilities as well as her engagement in the classroom.

Taylor demonstrated professionalism and accountability as she arrived on time every 12-hour
day shift utilizing the electronic medical record Cerner to help prepare for report. Ms. Weidner
was prepared and eager to learn and not afraid to take on any challenge presented to her as well
as was comfortable asking questions. Taylor completed 188 practicum hours in the Neonatal
Intensive Care unit at St. Josephs Hospital in Tucson Arizona.

Ms. Weidner demonstrated competency with neonatal assessment skills as she provided
developmental care for 1-3 neonates per shift. Taylor made herself available for learning
opportunities as she shadowed an Occupational Therapist in the NICU and the Social Worker for
the Maternal Child units. Taylor was able to see firsthand the impact the OT had with the
neonates and the importance of the individualized plan of care for best neonatal outcomes.

Safety was a high priority as medications were administered following all rights to medication
administration. Infection control was also a priority as Taylor followed hand washing policies as
well as followed isolation protocols. Taylor protected patient privacy respecting HIPAA policies.

Taylor is continuing to develop critical thinking skills as she has had a variety of experiences
providing the plan of care for neonates with: Prematurity, Respiratory Distress,
Hyperbilirubinemia, Intrauterine Growth Restriction, Drug Withdrawal, and Sepsis just to name
a few. Ms. Weidner was responsible for interpreting lab data as she followed blood gas results,
bilirubin, electrolytes, complete blood counts with differentials, and blood sugars. Abnormal
results were reported to the appropriate discipline utilizing SBAR.

Taylor developed an immediate rapport with the families and staff while working in the NICU.
Each week Taylor gained confidence while educating parents regarding infant positioning,
diapering, feeding, as well as safety. Flexibility was also demonstrated weekly as Taylor worked
with a variety of preceptors in the same week always focusing on additional learning. Taylor is
becoming more comfortable communicating with interdisciplinary team members as she has
initiated conversations with Occupational Therapy, Respiratory Therapy and the Neonatologist.
Taylors self-confidence has greatly increased as she gave handoff report to the RN staff.

Taylors caring attitude, motivation to learn and passion for nursing was demonstrated
throughout the clinical experience. Without hesitation I highly recommend Taylor Weidner a
stellar candidate for a new graduate registered nurse position. Please feel free to contact me for
additional information if needed.

Sincerely,

Beverly Bias, MS, RNC
