day will be on the board and the students will immediately answer it in their notebook.

Introduction: Discuss Coping with Loss and Grief. Advise the students to talk to you
personally after class if they are sensitive to the material.
Ask the students...
Can it happen to you?
Activity 2: Timeline Activity
The students will provide suggestions for life accomplishments of a typical united states
citizen and the teacher will write them on the board on a timeline of events. After the
students have each provided at least one example, the teacher will praise this persons
life accomplishments. Then she will erase everything that occurred after 16 years old.
This person could not express their feelings and did not know how to relieve the stress
of school and family issues.
Ask the students
How could this have been prevented?

Activity 3: Carousel Brainstorming

The teacher will play the songs the students provided from their homework assignment.
Large sheets of paper will be set up around the room, students will rotate from one chart
to the next, pausing for several minutes at each chart to brainstorm and record what
they know or feel about the subtopic. Each group has a different color marker, groups
end up back where they started and are able to see what others have added.
Plan to use at least 10 subtopics to spread the students into groups of 2-4 students.
Use information from the textbook, worksheets, and questions form the unit test.

Discuss with the students at the end of the activity, ask why some people answered how
they did and notice the variety of answers and opinions.

Ticket to leave: Students will fill out an answer to the question on the ticket to leave,
and hand to the teacher before exiting the room
