Why was Muncie, Indiana chosen for this study?

Muncie or Middletown USA was picked due to its unique position of being the most

ordinary place in America, it

city in the world, from a perspective of sociology. It was also a city that changed with the

economy of America. When it was necessary to be a blue collar or industrial community,

according to the video, it was as such. Later during the 1999 study it showed that like much of

America it changed, like much of America, it deviated from a blue collar community, to a

college town. A service oriented community.

Who were respondents and why they have been chosen?

It seems that the respondents in the study were the housewives and high school students, they

were the focus of the study. Perhaps thinking of this we could examine family life, it was not

fully explained that religious beliefs could have a correlation with family life. The data in the

video showed that particularly mothers spent a lot more time with their children than that of the

previous studies. It seemed to show that until the 1999 study, it was proportional to the changes.

In another analysis that is most curious, the mother of the family also worked more often for a

living, yet also was able to find time to spend with their family. Could these all be correlated, or

perhaps the standard of living has gotten much more easy to deal with. To explain, appliances

save time, meals no longer need much time to make, laundry and perhaps above all,

transportation is much better than the first two studies. It could be religion playing a role in a
better family life, or perhaps everything can be accomplished more quickly in modern

homesteads. For instance nearly every person has a story that their grandmother cooked for 4-5

hours every morning, just to send the family on their way, but today it can be accomplished in

much less time. So it could be that this extra time, is used in communication and family life, thus

creating a benefit to society with greater quality people? Perhaps another study should be made

to compare this topic.

What an open-ended question do you remembered?

What do you think about when you re in trouble, where do you turn to?

The answer that is reported to this question is church. Which is interesting because church

attendance had gone up since the original 1924 study. Women in the video seemed to choose

church as a release because they felt comfortable and happy in the congregation.
