ABSTRACT

The aim of this study was to discover the effect of modern home video on attitudinal behavior of

children. To achieve this, the survey research method was used, subject were drawn from the

respondents, using the simple random sampling techniques and purposive sampling. The

7
research work used two instruments to collect data, questionnaire and interview. The study

sample consisted of 6-12years old children living with their mothers. The researcher

administered interview either to the parent or to the parent and their children, asked about the

childs flow of activities over a 24 hours period beginning at midnight of the randomly

designated day. Data collected were analyzed in a tabular form and adopted simple percentage

as a formula. Research findings showed that a great number of children have access to a lot of

home videos. This study demonstrated that the children have access to home videos, and thus

exposed to them. Findings also indicated that their moral behavior to a great extent is influenced

by the home videos they watch. A great number of children are very exposed to home videos. The

great number of children watches home videos on a daily basis. As a result of the kind of home

videos children are exposed to, they tend to believe in the fiction aspect of life and this affects

their moral behavior negatively. To the end, the researcher recommended that Nigeria film

censor board should monitor and filter films before sending them for sale. This is to upgrade the

moral behavior of children. The children should be mindful of the kinds of home videos they

spend time watching. Keeping in mind that not all homes are meant for their consumption. The

children should limit the number of time spent in watching home videos that will not upgrade

their moral behavior and resolve their minds to restrain from immoral acts. The effect of home

video on attitudinal behavior of children should focus more on the positive side than on the

negative side to achieve a balance.
