Different study habits

As we all know, different parts of the world's students have all kinds of study habits.

According to the survey, it showed that students who live in China, their habits are very

different from other countries' students. In China, students are forced to study rather than

learning by themselves. But to a newly arrived Chinese who had grown up in a country that

had a totally different culture and social customs and who had been immersed in an opposing

ideology for an entire lifetime, this New World was novel, strange, and at times unreasonably

off. (Chinese students Encounter America, 2012) In foreign countries, students study by

themselves, teachers do not need to let them study. They become more independently. I

interviewed two students from different countries' high school.

The first people is Willow, she studies in the US high school. She thinks that American

students have own ability to study very well. They do not require supervision. Before, she

studied in China and Willow is 18 years old now. She told me that she changed a lot about

studying habits. She needs to change original habits to adapt the new environment. The

second person is Rebecca, she studies in Melbourne in Australia. She told me that foreign

high school do not force her to study, she only needs to study by herself. Also, good GPA

could go to better college. She also changed lots of original habits and she learns how to

study autonomously. After all, for a long time, original habits were rootedness. They pay

more attention to study how to change their habits to become better.

In general, most of Chinese students are used to recite contents about subjects. They do

not know how to master the skill flexibly. Because they are willing to recite contents and

answer of questions directly. It is undeniable that they lack of abilities of thinking about

questions. However, when Willow and Rebecca study in the abroad, they also find that it is

not easy for them to integrate with the whole community. As we all know, foreign people

have lots of different habits from Chinese students. For Willow, she participated in the dance

community, besides, she also takes part in community which has few people. She goes to the

orphanage to look after children. It is worthwhile for her to be a volunteer. She also told me

that the foreign high school life encourages her become more motivated. She could

communicate with foreign people smoothly gradually. She expresses own opinions with few

barriers, it is better than the beginning. With busy schedule, she relaxes herself by attending

the community. There are a lot of people to talk with each other about their studying. Thus,

she not only acquires lots of knowledge about the community, but also gets a plenty of

knowledge about subjects which she learns. On the other hand, Rebecca is lovely to

participate in sports community, running, drama. She thinks that sports could help her reduce

stressful. It is true that playing sports could help students focus on studying. In addition, she

likes studying in the foreign high school as called" work hard, play hard." She also pays more

attention to her credits because she wants to go to the famous university. Taking part in the

community provides her opportunities to communicate with other students. It can improve

her ability of pronunciation accurately, after all, English is not mother language.

On the other hand, they change the original habits to new habits. They are used to think

about questions with one method. In the initial stage of their overseas studies, the

participants tended to understand leaning in the sense of formal academic learning, which

took place in educational institutions, that is, in school or college. ( Chinese Students,

Learning Cultures and Overseas Study, 2015) However, foreign students could consider about

question flexibility. They learn how to manage time in the daily life effectively. They also

find one useful way to adapt the foreign high school. They told me that they learned how to

schedule their assignments and entertainment properly. For instance, Rebeca finished all of

assignments in the first time, and then go to the community or go shopping with friends to

relax. It is indispensable that their study habits play an important role in the foreign high

school life. It paves the way to let them become successful.

In conclusion, Chinese students spend lots of time to regulate own habits to adapt the

foreign high school. Besides, they attend a variety of communities to exercise and improve

themselves. They suffer problems from different parts of their foreign studying. However, at

last, they also acquire unexpected useful knowledge and know lots of friends.
