Critical Reflection
*Based on one lesson observation only - MM
Lesson plan was prepared in advance. Lesson outcome was specific and measurable.
You reviewed the key vocabulary first and told the students what they would be working on
today. Before showing them the video, you told them you would be asking questions
afterwards, which is a good way to encourage engagement. You asked them first what they
understood from the video and asked follow up questions, before clarifying what happened in
the video.
Resources were prepared and ready to go. Students were actively involved in the guided
activity and identified the criteria for classification.
I liked that you reviewed the different ways of sorting throughout the lesson, and recorded
these with the help of the students, to refer back to.
Also think about the level of challenge. As this is a new skill, this is your chance to assess
where the students are starting from, but you can use your observations of how they work and
their levels to help guide you when planning. If this lesson was too hard or too easy, how would
you adjust during the activity?
A little more detail required for the lesson plan (enough so someone else could use your plan
and know exactly what to do).
General Comments:
You have a calm, relaxed manner with the students. I liked that you were conversing with the
students during the activity, about the work
