Beaseys Classroom Procedures

Procedure 1:
Restroom Use During Class
Objective:
To provide for the least disruptive way for students with unexpected restroom needs to utilize the
restroom during the class period.
When procedure will be introduced, modeled, and practiced:
This procedure will be introduced on the first day of school. It will be modeled by the teacher
and practiced: on the first day, when new students join the class and, as needed (i.e.: if it appears
the procedure has been forgotten or is being abused).
Frequency of modeling and practice:
This procedure will be taught once on the first day of school and then modeled for the class by a
returning student or the teacher. It will then be practiced two or three times so that students fully
understand the process.
Assessment and Feedback:
Students will be assessed on an on-going basis and positive comments and reinforcement will be
given for those who are following the procedure correctly. Correction will be provided to
students not properly following the procedure after class, to minimize disruption to the class and
embarrassment for the student.
Procedure Steps or Activity:
Students have been told in advance (when this procedure was taught) that restroom breaks should
be taken between class periods. Restroom breaks during the class period should be rare and / or
for emergencies that may arise.
The following steps should be taken in the event a restroom break is needed:
1. The student should quietly raise their hand at their desk and wait to be acknowledged by
the teacher.
2. When the teacher waves the student up to their desk, the student should make their way
to the teacher in the least disruptive way possible (Quietly choosing an unobstructed and
quick path to the desk).
3. The student will quietly inform the teacher of the restroom request.
4. If approved, the student will be handed the restroom pass. The student shall then exit the
classroom as quietly as possible.
5. If declined, the student will return to their desk without argument (Quietly choosing an
unobstructed and quick path back to their desk).
6. Approved students should return to the classroom no more than a few minutes after
departing.
7. The restroom pass should be returned to its designated spot by the student immediately
upon their return.
8. This procedure may be utilized by only one student at a time.

students who need additional assistance

returning student or the teacher. It will then be practiced two or three times so that students fully
understand the process. It will be reinforced by practice the first day a study time is assigned.
Assessment and Feedback:
Students will be assessed on an on-going basis and positive comments and reinforcement will be
given for those who are following the procedure correctly. Correction will be provided to
students not properly following the procedure after class, to minimize disruption to the class and

immediately to students not properly following the procedure as not following it is a disruption
to the class.
Procedure Steps or Activity:
All students are encouraged to write questions down and wait to ask them after the lecture and
during the designated question and answer time. If a question is so pressing as to hinder further
understanding of the lecture, the following procedure should be followed:

2. When acknowledged, the student shall: Stand next to their desk, make eye contact with
