WORD DEFINITION ANTONYM

GRAMMAR POINT:

Sometimes the prefix of the antonym gives us a clue that it is negative.

DIS
Dis- is a negative prefix. It means not or none. When we add dis- to the beginning of a
word, we give it the opposite meaning.

UN
The prefix un means not or to remove.

4

PRACTICE REGULAR VERBS

Read the following story about Emily and Freds first date:

Fred picked Emily up from her house in the afternoon. First, they went to the art gallery.
They both liked Picasso paintings the best. Then they walked in the park and held hands. In
the evening, they went to a restaurant. Fred ordered a steak, and Emily ordered a
hamburger. Afterward, they walked around downtown. While they walked, they saw a
quiet caf and decided to go inside. Emily ordered a tea and Fred asked for a coffee. Also,
they shared a piece of chocolate cake. Then Fred drove Emily to her house. They both
enjoyed their evening.
