October 15 2007 Your Honour, : 1am writing in the hope I can help my son D'Arcy Knape in his plea for a final chance to turn his life around. D’Arcy has been battling a heroin addiction which has taken its toll on him. He very much regrets his actions, and has told me if he could relive the past he would give anything to do so. Since being at the North Fraser Pre-Trial centre, he has been severely attacked on several occasions, A hearing was held at the Centre and the other parfy was found to have attacked my son. Since then, he has been assaulted again and for almost the entire time at the Centre (approximately 7 months), D’Arcy has been held in segregation for his safety. The attacks were unprovoked and I fear that my son will come to great harm if he is kept in the facil D’Arcy’s father and I were divorced when D’Arcy was very young and he was deeply affected by the loss of his father who then left Canada. He is an intelligent gifted son who has in the past made a living with his Goldsmithing skills. He had quite a long period away from heroin, and was doing well and was happy. On his way home one day, he was set upon in Vancouver by a group of six or seven men. His jaw was broken and he was beaten and stripped of all his possessions including his jacket and shoes. A Cab driver found him lying unconscious in the street and very compassionately drove him to the hospital. The attack has left him with pins holding his jaw in place and recurring neck p: It was after this incident that he slipped back into heroin use. My son is a talented Goldsmith and Gemologist, who not only can create beautiful jewellery, but is an Artisan who has worked on some lovely wood figurines. My home has many items crafted by my son and presented to me from when he was in his teens through to adulthood.
