play as a doubleheader on the next scheduled league night. Basically play two
players at one time.

3.1. It should be assumed that the golf league will be played unless an email is received
by a League Officer prior to the scheduled tee time.

8.2. At the point that the maximum for a hole has been reached, do not continue playing
the hole, pick up!
8.3. From a scoring standpoint, a pick-up is NOT the same as completing the hole with
the maximum score.
8.3.1. A pick-up occurs when the hole was not completed.
8.3.2. Please indicate on the score card, by some fashion, whenever a pick-up has
occurred (i.e. "X").
8.3.3. In the absence of any annotation, the score will be treated as completed with
the maximum hole score (i.e. NOT a pick-up).
8.3.4. A pick-up is not eligible to win points on a hole unless both players record a
pick-up.
8.4. For stat keeping purposes, any recorded pick up will receive 4 putts for that hole.

net score (gross score minus handicap).

holes being played.

10.1. There may be times when a player cannot play a match on a regularly
scheduled night of league play
10.1.1. Matches must be made up before the scheduled week for positional play
matches (typically match 6)
11. Substitutions
11.1. In the event a player is unable to play on a scheduled night and will not be
able to make the match up before the required day they may ask for a substitute to
play in their place.
11.1.1. Unless a former league member, the substitutes handicap will be based on
the score for the match played.
11.1.2. A substitute may not win more than 5.5 points for the absent player.
11.1.2.1. Any points won by the substitute beyond 5.5 will be discarded and thus

12.2. Cards must be turned in to a league officer on the night of the round.
13. Penalties

Exceptions to USGA rules are only for stated golf league rules and local course rules.
Exceptions are listed in this document.
13.2. In cases where the USGA rule differs for match play and stroke play - the
league would generally play by the match play rule. The league officers should be
consulted if there is a question on the correct interpretation of the rules.
14. Out of Bounds Penalty
14.1. League Rule
14.1.1. A ball may be dropped within two club-lengths of the point at which it crossed
the boundary for out of bounds. The ball may not be dropped nearer the hole.
There is a penalty of one stroke.
14.1.2. Note: There are no exceptions to the drop point due to stance, swing or flight
of ball.
15. Lost Ball Penalty
15.1. League Rule
15.1.1. A ball may be dropped within two club-lengths of the point at which it was
suspected that the ball landed. The ball may not be dropped nearer the hole nor
can the player's position be improved (i.e., a ball lost in the rough must be
dropped in the rough; a ball lost in a waste area must be dropped in the waste
area, etc.)
15.1.2. There is a penalty of one stroke.
15.1.3. Note: Please come to an agreement with your opponent as to the appropriate
drop point for a lost ball.
16. Unplayable Lies
16.1. For unplayable lies, the USGA rules are followed. To keep pace of play, we
allow 2 of 3 USGA choices:

16.1.1. Option #1- A ball is dropped within two club-lengths of the spot where it was
found. The drop may not be closer to the hole.

16.1.2. Option #2- A ball is dropped anywhere along the line connecting the spot
where the ball was found and the flag. The drop may not be closer to the hole.
16.2. There is a one-stroke penalty regardless of choice.
17. Water Hazards
17.1. For balls landing in a water hazard, the USGA rules are followed. To keep pace
of play, we allow 2 of 3 USGA choices:
17.1.1. Option #1- A ball is dropped anywhere along the line connecting the point of
entry and the flag. The drop may not be closer to the hole.

17.1.2. Option #2- A ball is dropped within two club-lengths of the spot where it
entered the hazard. The drop may not be closer to the hole.

17.2. There is a one-stroke penalty regardless of choice.

18. Improving Lies
18.1. Winter Rules
18.1.1. The league plays using winter rules. This provides two exceptions to standard
USGA rules:

18.1.1.1. Bumping - A ball in the fairway may be improved by using your club to
roll the ball less than 6 inches to either side or away from the hole.

18.1.1.1.1. This rule only applies when a ball is in the fairway for the hole
being played and does not apply to a ball in the rough, in a hazard, in
an adjacent fairway or on the green.

18.1.1.2. Embedded / Plugged Balls - The USGA rule allows relief from an
embedded ball in the fairway, green or "closely mown" areas of the rough.
The golf league extends this rule to all areas of the rough.

18.1.1.2.1. If a ball is resting in its pitch mark in a fairway, closely-mown

rough or green, the ball may be removed from its pitch mark.

18.1.1.2.1.1. A ball plugged in the fairway may be placed no closer

to the hole

18.1.1.2.2. For other areas of the rough, a ball is considered plugged when
at least one third of it is beneath the surface.

18.1.1.2.2.1. A ball plugged in the rough may be dropped no closer

the hole.

18.1.1.2.3. The embedded golf rule does not apply to balls in a hazard
(including bunkers).
18.2. Ground Under Repair
18.2.1. Relief is provided for a ball or stance in an area marked as "ground under
repair", or if you and your opponent agree that an area is under repair. The ball
should be dropped at the nearest point, no closer to the hole, where the
"ground under repair" area no longer affects stance or shot.
18.2.2. A player's position may not be improved (i.e., a ball in the rough must be
dropped in the rough; a ball in a waste area must be dropped in the waste area,
etc.)
18.3. Casual Water
18.3.1. Casual water is defined as a temporary accumulation of water that is not part
of a water hazard. Casual water must be visible, before or after a player takes
his or her normal stance.
18.3.2. The relief from casual water is to drop at the nearest point, no closer to the
hole, where casual water is no longer present. Again, a player's position may
not be improved.
