RE: Fighting Back Against Anti-Abortion Legislation on the House Floor
DATE: May 8, 2017

Trust Respect Access is a broad coalition of reproductive health, rights, and justice organizations representing
diverse voices from across the state. We represent Texans who want their state lawmakers to advance a
shared vision of a state where all Texans regardless of age, income, zip code, gender identity, immigration
status, or whether they are incarcerated or detained has access to all reproductive health care options.

Five of the 39 anti-abortion bills filed this session have been set for Monday and Tuesdays calendars. House
Bill 1936, House Bill 200, House Bill 2962, House Bill 2858, and House Bill 3771 do not represent the values of
a growing majority of Texans. Taken together, these dangerous bills would only serve to stand in the way of
Texans and the health care they need, to stigmatize abortion and shame women seeking abortion care, and to
undermine the doctor-patient relationship.

Just last summer, the U.S. Supreme Court struck down as unconstitutional two major Texas abortion
restrictions that led to the closure of more than half our states abortion clinics. The Court saw right through the
lies used to justify the restrictions and sided with doctors, patients, and the majority of Texans who believe that
abortion should be accessible in our communities.

Texas womens reproductive freedom is not a political pawn. And today, Texans across the state are watching
this chamber with the expectation their representatives resist any attempt to further chip away at our rights.

Our 12 organizations urge you to stand with us and fight back against all attacks on Texans reproductive
freedom to stop this legislation from harming Texas women and families. For more information on proposing
an amendment or asking questions of the authors of these bills please contact Bonnie Baricasse at Planned
Parenthood Texas Votes or Blake Rocap at NARAL Pro-Choice Texas.
