7 Online Marketing
Trends That Will
Dominate 2017

Continued from page 1

5. Brands Will Increasingly Target

Niche Markets Out of Necessity.

Online marketing is becoming more

crowded; though the number of
available consumers has remained more
or less steady, millions of new
businesses have flooded into the space
for a piece of the pie. This is especially
true in the content and social media
marketing spaces. One of the best
solutions for this is to target a more
specific niche, appealing to a narrower
range of demographics with a more
specific topic. As a result, were bound to
see more companies opting for more
targeted, almost personal-level content
and campaigns.

6. Well See the Rise of Immersive Experience Content Marketing.

Users are also craving more immersive experiences, giving them the feeling
that theyre doing more than staring at a phone or laptop screen. Augmented
reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) are two technologies driving this mentality
forward (and Ive already mentioned AR), but dont forget other ways of
providing this immersive experience. You can offer 360 videos to make your
users feel like theyre living in a moment, or host live webinars and workshops
to get people to engage with you. The key is to provide some level of interaction
in a way that makes people feel like theyre a part of something bigger.

7. Dense Content Will Become Essential to Cut Through the

Content Noise.

Attention spans have fallen to goldfish-like levels, and were only going to grow
more impatient and demanding as technology progresses. The potentially
infinite scrolls of social media newsfeeds and endless streams of content from
almost every brand and individual we follow have forced us to filter out the
majority of messages we see as white noise. We skim articles. We skip posts.
We share articles after only reading the headline. In response, more marketers
are going to learn that dense content is key, making every line and every word
count.

I project these trends based on the current information I have, including last
years trends, the introduction of new technologies, and how I see and hear
marketers talking about the year to come. Instead of diving headlong into them,
research them carefully, and either strategize how to include them in your
marketing campaignsor compensate for them once they start circulating.

Bryan Cooperrider, our guest on this week's episode of The Limit Does Not
is a product designer, an educator, a multi-instrumentalist and
Exist, an
improviser. He's also a ninja. True story. And when you listen, you'll know
exactly what we're talking about. In fact, you might discover that you're a ninja.
Or a pirate. Or a robot. Or some combination thereofand we'll help you figure
out what your unique combination is.

Cooperrider is currently the director of the Design4Practice program at

Northern Arizona University, and an Assistant Professor of Practice in the
engineering department at NAU. With a background in art and engineering,
Cooperrider received a masters degree in product design from Stanford
University, where he joined the Stanford Improvisers, a move that would lead
him to become one of the founding fathers of the improv comedy community in
Flagstaff, AZwhere he currently performs with the group Tiny Punches.
Cooperrider and his wife Beth, also a product designer, run a design consulting
firm in Flagstaff called ZWorks Design, which uses a human-centered design
process to develop technologies, products, experiences, and services that
provide value to a companys customers.

As a product designer, Cooperrider is an expert in processa framework that

translates well to many pursuits. We discuss that framework, plus the
difference between engineering and product design, and Cooperrider shares the
importance of upgrading the traditional engineering education in order to
make it more creative and interdisciplinary. We also talk about improvisation,
and how its core principles can apply in any setting.

Cooperrider believes in the community-building power of music.

Additionally, Cooperrider gives us a crash course in world music: as the

founder of Sambatuque, a Brazilian percussion bateria dedicated to the
rhythms and grooves of the Brazilian nation, and a board member of the Center
for Indigenous Music and Culture in Flagstaff, Cooperrider opens our minds to
the community aspect of music. He also tells us about Brazil camp, which is as
awesome as it sounds.
