Anyone can be tested, but the JCPHS especially recommends testing for the following:
People born between 1945 and 1965 (they are 5 times more likely to be infected).
Anyone who had a blood transfusion or a blood product before 1992.
Those that obtained a tattoo outside of a licensed facility.
Those that injected or snorted drugs even only once.
Men who've ever had sex with other men.
Millions of Americans are infected; many do not even know it. The hepatitis C virus
attacks the liver. People with hepatitis C often have no symptoms. Many people can live
with an infection for decades without feeling sick. If left undiagnosed and untreated,
hepatitis C can lead to serious liver disease such as cirrhosis, liver failure and liver
cancer. New and more effective treatments can cure more than 90% of cases in as little
as 12 weeks. All individuals who test positive will receive educational materials and be
referred for treatment.
Also, vaccinations for Hepatitis A and B that will be offered at this clinic. Hepatitis A
vaccination is recommended for all children at one year of age. Adults who need
Hepatitis A and B vaccine are:
Travelers to developing countries.
Men who have sex with men.
Users of illicit drugs.
Persons needing frequent blood products.
People who have chronic liver disease.
Hepatitis B vaccine is also recommended for health and human service workers, dialysis
patients, people with HIV, people who have multiple sex partners, and those who are
intimate or sharing living space with someone with Hepatitis B infection.
