Messina has a large port with a busy ferry connection across the Strait of Messina to the mainland. At peak times, it is a coming and
going of cars, trucks, and passengers. At the docking pier for cruise ships, it is a lot quieter. You will dock in the west of the port, near Via
Vittoria Emmanuele II. That is almost in the center of Messina,close to most landmarks. You canvisit the city of Messina or make an
excursion to Taormina.

VISIT TAORMINA
Practical
Taormina is not very big, butgettingthereistimeconsuming.Count on at least half a day. It is a lovely placeforastroll andtovisit the
landmarks. Insummer,it can be extremely busy.
With a combination of train and public bus from Messina you can easily reach Taormina. A train ride from Messina Centrale to
Taormina-Giardini costs 4 per person (one way) and takes between 40 minutes and 1 hour. In the morning the trains run less
frequent than in the afternoon. Check the train timetable before you leave.
How do I get to the train station from the cruise port in Messina?
Messina train station is situated on Piazza della Republica, within walking distance of your docking area. Walk from your cruise
ship along the dock toward the ferry terminal. Just before the Stazione Marittima go right. There is the train station.
TIP: In Taormina itself is no train station. Therefore get off at Taormina-Giardini train station. Just outside the station you can
take the public bus (Interbus) to the center of Taormina. The journey takes about 20 minutes and costs 1.80 per person (one
way). There run 2-3 buses per hour. Taormina center is pedestrianized. The bus park is a few minutes walk from the city center.

There's a good bus connection between Messina and Taormina. The journey takes 1h45min and costs 4.10 per person (one way).
The bus (Interbus) takes you directly to the parking lot close to the center of Taormina so you don't have to change transport.
The bus stop in Messina is situated near the train station on Piazza della Repbublica within walking distance of your cruise ship.
During the morning and siesta in the afternoon, the frequency of the buses is slightly lower. You can consult the Interbus timetable in
advance.
There is no train station in Taormina. You should get off at Taormina-Giardini station. There you arrive by train from
Catania or Messina. Further take a bus.
Just before the train station of Taormina-Giardini you can take a Interbus to Taormina.
CenterofTaorminaispedestrianized. This is the last stop of the bus from Giardini-Naxos, the busfromMessinaand
Catania. From the parking is only a few minutes walk to the Corso Umberto.
The cruise port of Naples, your starting point for great excursions
In Naples, cruise ships dock at Molo Beverello alongside the cruise terminal (Stazione Maritima). The cruise port of Naples is located in the
south of the city next to the marina and the ferry port. The historic city center with its landmarks is withinwalking distance. The cruise port
ofNaples isone of the largest in the Mediterranean and therefore has a large modern cruise terminal with many facilities for cruise
passengers. Docking in Naples means you have to make choices. There is so much to see. Naples itself, Pompei, Herculaneum, the
volcanoVesuvius, Sorrento, and the Amalfi Coast. Or why not go to the island of Capri?

VISIT SORRENTO
Sorrento tourist information
The information kiosk is located near the exit of the train station (in a form of old train wagon).
Practical
Coming from Naples or Capri, Sorrento is the first resort on the Amalfi coast. This small town bursts withmanytourists, but it is well worth
a visit.
If you only visit Sorrento, count on half a day. If you continue along the Amalfi Coast or combine your visit with Pompei, a full day will be
necessary.
From Naples you can easily make an excursion to Sorrento. The best way to do that is by the special Circumvesuviana train. It
runs every 30 minutes between Naples and Sorrento and makes stops including at Herculaneum and Pompei.
The journey from Naples to Sorrento takes about one hour. A ticket costs 2.10 per person (valid for 100 minutes after validation).
From Sorrento you can continue by bus or scooter to explore the Amalfi coast. Better check the train timetable in advance.
How do I get to the Circumvesuviana station from the cruise port in Napels?
In Naples are 2 places to catch the Circumvesuviana train. At the main station on Corso Garibaldi or at the train station at

l TramN1 has a stop at Via C.Colombo, opposite the cruise terminal. The tram makes a stop both at Corso Garibaldi and
Piazza Garibaldi. It runs frequently. The ride takes only a few minutes and costs 1,20 per person (one way).
l Also at the Via C.Colombo you can take busN151. A ticket costs 1.20 per person (one way). The bus stops both at Corso
Garibaldi and the train station at Piazza Garibaldi.
l A taxi from the port to the train station costs about 15 per taxi (4 persons one way).
TIP: If you take the Circumvesuviana train from the train station on Pizazza Garibaldi, keep in mind that the Circumvesuviana
station is located underground. It is well indicated.
On walking distance from the cruise terminal, is a SITA bus station. It's located at Nuova Marina. The bus company offers
trips including to Sorrento and other places along the Amalfi coast. You can buy a ticket in the same office as from the ferries.
There are 1-2 buses per hour. A ticket costs 2.80 per person (one way) and the trip takes about 35 minutes. It's always good to
consult the timetable and tariffs in advance.
TIP: If you plan to use the public transport more often consider a day ticket. Unicocampania offers several possibilities. With a
combined day ticket you can make unlimited use of the various bus, metro and train companies (including Circumvesuviana) in the
region around Naples. A day pass including Naples, Pompeii and all important places along the Amalfi coast costs 12 per person.
At weekends only 6.30 per person.
There are good connections by public transport between Naples and Sorrento, but if you prefer a taxi expect to pay a price between
220 and 250 per taxi (4 persons, roundtrip). The distance is 50 kilometers and the ride takes 45 minutes to an hour, depending
on traffic conditions.

Near the cruise terminal, you can take a hydrofoil (Alilauro company) to Sorrento. The ferries depart every 2 hours. A single trip
takes about 40 minutes and costs 11 per person. You can check the timetable in advance.
TIP: Go by train to Sorrento and come back by ferry or vice versa. This will make your trip even more fascinating.
The Circumvesuviana-train connects Sorrento with Naples and stops in Pompeii and Herculaneum. At the station you
can also take a SITA-bus for further exploring of the Amalfi coast.

The cruise port of Civitavecchia (Rome), your starting point for great excursions
The cruise port of Civitavecchia is located in the west of the city. It is often called the cruise port of Rome, but it is still more than 70 kilometers
away.Generally,cruise ships dock at the most western pier. Several ships can dock at the same time.
At the entrance/exit of the port is Michelangelo Fort, the main attraction of Civitavecchia. From the port you have several transportation
options to visit Rome on your own.

TIP: You can easily discover Rome on your own but be aware of the long lines at the main monuments. It can be a good option to book a tour
or tickets in advance
The train is a fast and inexpensive way to travel to Rome from Civitavecchia cruise port. Depending on the type of train and the
number of stops the ride takes between 1h and 1h 20min to complete. Trains run very frequent (2-3 trains per hour).
An ordinary train ticket between Rome and Civitavecchia costs 5 per person (one way, 2nd class).You can buy your ticket at the
counter or ticket machines in the station. Check the train timetable in advance.
TIP: buy a special B.I.R.G. ticket at the station. This return ticket costs 12 per person and is also valid for unlimited bus and
metro use in Rome. At the exit of the port you can also buy train tickets, but they are up to 3 per person more expensive than at
the station.
How do I get to the train station from the cruise port of Civitavecchia?
From your cruise ship, you can walk to the exit of the harbor or take the free shuttle bus. Civitavecchia train station is about 1 km on
foot from Fort Michelangelo, at the entrance / exit of the port.
Walk from there along the Viale Giuseppe Garibaldi, with the sea on your right side. After about 10 mimuten you will see the train
station on your left.
Rome is about 70 kilometers from the cruise port of Civitavecchia. For a single taxi drive of just one hour you will pay about
125 per taxi (5 passengers). A seven hours tour costs about 350 per taxi (roundtrip, 5 passengers, waiting time and toll included).
You can take a taxi at the exit of the cruise port.
TIP: Consider to book your taxi in advance, as they are rather scarce.
Roma Termini is the main station in Rome. There you can easily take a metro to the main sights in the city. Close to
Vatican City you can also find Roma San Pietro train station. If you take the train from Civitavecchia you combine this
two stations.
Roma San Pietro train station is located within walking distance from the Vatican City. It is a small station where it can
get crowded with events at St. Peter's Square. The main train station in Rome is RomaTermini.
TIP: Combine two stations to save time. For example, start at Roma Termini and return from Roma San Pietro. They
lie on the same line and your ticket is valid for both stations.
Tourist Office
The Tourist Office is located not far from the Colosseum. It can be very busy during high season.
Most shops are open Monday through Saturday from 9:00 to 19:30. Some shops close during siesta from 13:00 to
16:00.
On Sunday, between 7:00 and 13:00, you can go to Porta Portese, the main market of Rome and the largest outdoor
market in Europe. You will find antiques, books, jewelry, CDs, ...
The cruise port of Livorno, your starting point for great excursions
Livorno is a major commercial port where several cruise ships can dock at the same time. There is a cruise terminal in the port of Livorno,
but you can dock anywhere in port. The docking for larger cruise ships is near Darsena Calafati and Darsena Petroli, right in the industrial
port. Smaller vessels can dock at the cruise terminal at Porto Mercantile.Itisdifficulttopredictwhereexactlyyouwilldock.Thisdepends
mainly on the size of your cruise ship and the traffic in the harbor.
There is a big chance that you dock in an industrial area with a lot of noise and heavy traffic, especially since Livorno's ferry port is connected

VISIT FLORENCE
Practical
Florence is perhaps the top excursionfrom Livorno cruise port, but it's also often on the program from La Spezia cruise port. The city is filled
withart, museums, and culture anda storyhidesbehind every corner. Count on a full day for this excursion.
From Livorno it's also possible to combine this trip with a short visit to Pisa on the way back. If you go by train from Livorno, you will pass
thePisa train station. You can go on your own or opt for an organized tour.
A fast, efficient and inexpensive way to visit Florence from Livorno is by train. The drive from Livorno Centrale to Florence Santa
Maria Novella lasts 1h20 minutes and costs 8.20 per person (one way). There run 1-2 trains per hour. From the train station
Santa Maria Novella in Florence, you can walk to the city center. It's good to check the train timetable in advance.
TIP: Florence and Pisa are located along the same train line. First visit the more remote Florence and get off in Pisa Centrale on
your way back. Keep in mind that this will be a very tight schedule.
How do I get to the train station from the cruise port in Livorno?
Livorno Centrale train station is too far from the harbor to get there on foot. You can take a taxi for approximately 20 per
taxi (4 persons one way) or you opt for the combination shuttle bus and public transport. The latter is the most popular option
and it's very simple. Here are the steps to take.

Take the shuttle bus from your cruise ship to the stop at the back of Piazza Grande.

At Piazza Grande, take busN1 to the station. The bus runs every 7-10 minutes and costs 1,20 per person (one way). Make
sure that you don't take the bus on the side of Mc. Donalds, because it goes in the opposite direction. Take the bus at Piazza
Grande C. bus stop at the center of the square. The journey takes 10 minutes.
TIP: Buy your bus ticket in advance at the Tourist Office, at ticket machines or at a Tabacchi kiosk . On the bus you usually pay
1 more.

Florence is located about 100 kilometers from Livorno. A taxi ride takes about 1h20min. Count on 350 per taxi (4 persons,
roundtrip, 2 hours waiting time included).
You will arrive here by train from Livorno or by train from La Spezia. The station is within walking distance from the
main sights of Florence.

need about the city.
If you like Outlet shopping than this may be something for you. South of Florence you can find some Outlet Shopping
Centers like Space Outlet (Prada), The Mall and D&G Outlet. You can find big brands at small prices. This is how to get
there.
The cruise port of Marseille, your starting point for great excursions
Marseille has a large cruise port with various cruise terminals and piers. These are located at Mle Leon Gourret (port No. 4),
theindustrialarea of the port. Your cruise ship will dock at about 8-10 kilometers from Vieux Port, the historic center of Marseille, where most
sightscanbefound.Thetheportisextremelybusy.Many trucks rush around. Yet, it is possible to leave the port on foot anduse
publictransportation to the city center.
Only smaller vessels (<200 meters) can dock closer to the city in La Joliette. Cruise passengers often choose for an excursion outside
Marseilles to places like Aix-En-Provence, Arles or Avignon.

Practical
Exploring Marseille and visiting the most important points of interest, will take at least half a day.
Bus 35 takes you in 15 minutes to La Joliette for 1.5 per person (one way). The bus stops at the exit of portN4 where the big
cruise ships dock. There are 3-4 buses per hour. From La Joliette you have 2 options. You can walk to the city center at Vieux Port
or take the connecting bus 55.
Walking is preferred considering you also pass along the Cathedral which is located about halfway. The total distance from La
Joliette to the center is about 1 km.
How do I get to the bus stop from the cruise port of Marseille?

In Palma de Mallorca most cruise ships doct at Estacio Maritima. This modern terminal also serves as a transit area for ferry passengers.
The cruise terminal is located 6 km southwest of the historic city. If it's very busy in the harbor there is a chance that you dock in the
industrial zone near the fort at Porto Pi. In the latter case, you dock up to 8 kilometers away from the city center and main highlights

If you dock in the industrial area of the port, count on a 8 kilometer walk. When leaving your cruise ship, stay close to the seaside
on your right and follow the Carrera de L'Arsenal.WhenyouexitthegateoftheEstacion de Porto Pi, turn right. At the
roundabout go right again. Follow the Avinguda de Gabriel Roca into the center of town.
Close to the docking area in Palma you can take a taxi to the center of town. Suitable drop-off locations are Plaad'Espanya and
PlaadelaReina, both in the city enter and within walking distance of most highlights. The ride only takes a few minutes and
costs between 10 and 15 per taxi (4 persons, one way).
BusN1 brings you in 10 minutes from the cruise terminal to Plaad'Espanya in the center of the city.

Opposite the fort at Porto Pi,youcantakebusN1atthestopDic de l'Oest. It takes you to the center in 10 minutes.
The main shopping streets in Palma are Avinguda Jaume III and the Passeig des Born, Plaza Juan Carlos I next to
the Cathedral, and small streets around Placa Major. There you can find different souvenirs shops, designer stores and
boutiques.
In afternoon a lot of shops close for siesta. Usually stores are open from 10.00 in the morning till 01.30 p.m., and then
from 16.30 to 20.00. On Sunday all shops in Mallorca are closed.
