Ecstasies of AN Entrepreneur

Focus Is Not Enough

The 10,000 Hours Is Very Important,
But It Lacks One Very Important Ingredient

Merk is a 48-year-old guy who works in a government agency ever since

Magellan conquered the Philippines. Merk is probably short for Amerikano
because he looks mestizo.
For the past 24 years, his job label has been Admin Associate which,
at least in his department, was a fancy word for clerk/janitor/messenger or
basically someone who isnt very important and can be fired anytime. But
being fired is the least of his worries. Merk has been regularized before
the dinosaurs roamed the planet and thus already owns that 6 feet x 6
feet real estate in his office building, together with his old desk, old chair,
and old trashcan. He got the job because his uncle was an old classmate of
the Mayor. And Merk has already seen the comings and goings of six political
appointees as head of the agency.
But hes been immovable as a rock.
So 10,000 hours is kindergarten for him.
By 10,000 hours, Im talking about Malcolm Gladwells bestselling book, Outliers. One of his core messages is that in
order to succeed in life, you need to do your stuff (whatever your stuff is) for at least 10,000 hours.
I totally believe in this principle.
So why doesnt it work with Merk? If you count the number of hours Merk has focused on his desk job, hes already
clocked in 58,240 hours.
So whats missing?

Focus and Feedback

The day I met Merk, he told me, Brother Bo, I dont know what to do with my life. Im stuck in this dead-end job.
Ive heard his story before. Many, many times. Many people prefer the golden handcuffs. A monthly salary, even if its
small, is so much safer than the risk of doing something else. Thats why people remain stuck.
Focusing on one thing is crucial to success. But for many people, the missing link is feedback. In other words, the
10,000 hour principle will not make you grow if you dont have a MENTOR giving you feedback on how you can grow.
In fact, mentors shorten your learning curve by 50 percent or 70 percent or even 90 percent, depending on how open
you are to feedback.

How Do You Start Your New Year R.I.G.H.T? By Dean Pax Lapid

Happy New Year to all Platinum and Entrep Circle members!

On behalf of the Wealth Circle Mentors (Bro. Bo, Edward, Larry,
Junie, Randy, Ronnie & Rexnot in the picture)
We wish you all a prosperous year!
Were BACK TO WORK and the first thing on each agenda
is, How do I start the new year on the right footing?
Ive often been asked by friends, my students and business
partners on how I normally plan during the start of the year.
Do I make a new years resolution (only to be broken within
a few weeks)? Do I make several planning sessions across the
businesses that I own or represent, or just do one consolidated
event?

MY ANSWER: I start it R.I.G.H.T. always.

R = REVIEW PAST PERFORMANCE
I = INVESTIGATE-INITIATE NEW BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES
G = GOAL SETTING (PERSONAL & BUSINESS)
H = ? (PLS DO NOT PEEK)
T = ? (PLS DO NOT PEEK)

Review of Previous Years Performance

Like any businessman or corporate executive, you have to set a reference of things that went well or did not do well
in 2013. You cannot go where youre going (in 2014 & beyond) if you do not know where you are and the situation youre
in currently.
You are where you are and what you are because of what you have done or failed to do.
Last year, I closed my Tagaytay farm because it was only earning five months of the year for the past nine years. Thats
the stark reality of agribusiness that Ive learned. The lettuce farm was quite profitable during the months of November-
March, almost break-even during the summer months and negative cash during the rainy months (June-October). Do
not get me wrong it is still profitable (one million/year of NIAT) but not within the targets that weve set amongst the
corporation partners. I only own 40 percent of the farm. We sold it to the Koreans!
Lesson: Business is an investment that needs to be compared with other options. Financial growth is about finding
where the same money or effort can be invested into a better yield. Of course, passion plays the trump card if all else are
the same.
Last year, my gas retailing business was fully recovered after barely three years of operations (Return on Investment).
Despite the volatility in the gasoline market, we were able to keep our margins intact and consistently supply our tricycle
market. I was also able to employ four high school girls from the vicinity of the Luisita Estate in Tarlac. In fact, our sales
supervisor has now enough money to fund her college degree.
EntrepCircle Report | V2.01 | January 2014 Page 6

Lesson: It does not matter if the customer is from the rich class of the market or the mass market. As you give
consistently quality products and/or service, customers will keep coming back. REMEMBER: the Kleenex experience as
you take one, another one appears ready to be taken (serviced).
Gas Retailing is all about KISS.
I told our gas girls to always K.I.S.S. the
customers

- Keep it Speed Service,
- Know If Sukli Short (Sukli in Tagalog is

Last year I opened another IT company

(EVZSolutions.com) manned by PWD (persons
with disability) that does mobile applications for
the SMEs or small medium enterprises. My mobile
developers are not disabled. In fact they are:
Persons with Dreams and Persons with Devotion.

My Vision and Purpose

I believe that anyone can become a small or medium
enterprise with the right platform of product innovation and
technology. I also believe that I can prosper talented persons
with disability to become IT programmers. In fact, Wally dela
Cruz was featured by Bro Bo during the PICC Feast when he
launched Novena to Gods Love FOR FREE. He uses his
feet to program because he has deformed hands. Download
the apps for free at www.EVZsolutions.com or GooglePlay.
(Obviously, theres a heavy cost to develop the mobile apps but I value more the relationship with Bro. Bo and my
God. More importantly, I know that it will bless others)

Insights of Opportunities
The English new year (Jan 1st) and the Chinese new year (Jan 31st) falls on the same month this year but as early as
4 week of December, we already heard a lot of Wooden Horse predictions on what is a lucky business for 2014.
th

Personally LUCKY comes to those who are prepared and is aware of the trends of business. In the stock market,
theres always a saying that The trend is your friend. The T.R.U.S.T. for business trends in 2014 are the following:

T = Tourism R = Restaurants U = Utilities S = Services T = Technology

T Why is it more fun in the Philippines? Our country (Pilipinas Kong mahal) is home to some of the worlds great
tourist sites and adventures with its unparalleled natural wonders, spectacular beaches, world-renowned heritage sites,
modern shopping complexes, rich biodiversity, culture, and history.
If youre up to setting a travel business, make sure that you have the following packages: a beach vacation, historical
trip and/or adventure trip, gastronomic and/or fashion shopping tour, or English immersion for Asean counterparts.

R The Filipino palate is getting more educated with the introduction of the different restaurant concepts in Manila
and being more exposed to traveling abroad.Take theRamen Crazefor example, where Manileos were introduced to
various high quality ramen last year. Foodies are more knowledgeable on the subject now, and can say what constitutes
good ramen versus a bad one.
The prices of food are also increasing, which is both good and bad. Good in a sense that theres now a market for
EntrepCircle Report | V2.01 | January 2014 Page 7

higher quality ingredients and services, resulting in high-end restaurant brands and Michelin
Star chefs investing and setting up shop in Manila. Its bad because the cost of dining out is
going up and foodies will be more demanding of the quality of food and services they pay
for. Now is the time to introduce crazy concepts, innovative food, and alternative dining
options to the Manila market.

U The Philippines has one of the most expensive power rates in the world. In
Asia, it is the most expensive and its unreliability poses a big hurdle to attract new investments and deters expansion of
existing businesses in the Philippines. The Philippines lack of competitiveness was confirmed in the latest survey among
International Chamber of Commerce which ranked the Philippines just ahead of Brunei, placing our country second to
the last preferred site for investments among ASEAN members. The unreliable energy supply and power rates, along with
inadequate infrastructure, were pinpointed as the main reasons why investors shy away from the Philippines.
The enactment of the Electric Power Industry Reform Act (EPIRA) - a law that calls for the privatization of the power
sector and attract private investments - made our business group to seriously contemplate on entering the power sector
using BIOMASS technology to produce 2 x 25 MW power in CARAGA region.
My vision and purpose is to be part of a BILLION enterprise that contributes towards nationbuilding and inclusive
growth particularly in the countryside. Our Energy Renewables group also aims to have a bottom-line of People-Planet-
Profit. In fact our partners are the Manobo Tribes of Agusan del Norte. Our program for the Manobo tribe is towards
inclusive growth and job creation called Y.A.P.O.S (You Are Part Of Society).

S A successful business especially in retail is about more than

product quality. When a customer enters an establishment, they expect
to find a pleasant, enjoyable atmosphere and respectful, attentive staff.
When executed correctly, these attributes can make customers feel happier,
healthier or more attractive. Even during my Shell retailer days, we called
this Moments of Truth. Its the end to end process from acknowledging
the customer all the way to the correctness of the gas bill and change
(sometimes the promo coupon as well).
Unfortunately, a typical of mom and pops operations struggle to
quantify and measure these feelings, making it difficult to adjust customer
experiences at the local level. However, we know that these emotional
attributes of the experience are extremely important to building customer loyalty. The challenge for businesses is to
implement technologies and systems that will help them better understand their customers behaviours that elicit these
feelings, and to create customer experiences that are more engaging and satisfying.
By exploring the customers behaviours that enforce their emotional bank account, SMEs (small medium
enterprises) can reinforce the behaviours that strengthen consumer-brand relationships.

T The digital experience delivery makes or breaks a firm. The digital application/channel in a business is no
longer a nice to have. The physical (brick/mortar store) and the digital (online shopping) experience are now converging.
Consumers, especially the yuppies, want the same attention in every business channel (in store, mobile or the combination).
Technology now exists to serve the MARKET OF ONE. Technology can provide personalized customer service
that starts with a mobile device (Android phone), continues throughout the shopping experience and ends with home
delivery(courtesy of Forbes Retail Trends in 2014).
The EVZ Solutions Company that I recently incorporated is in the forefront of technology for RETAIL. Its hitting two
birds with one stone with my advocacies namely employing the underprivileged (out-of-school youths or persons with
disability) and helping small enterprises start up their respective businesses (GoNegosyo).

Goal Setting

SUCCESS is goals and all else is commentary. This is the great discovery throughout all of human history. Your life only
begins to become a great life when you clearly identify what it is that you want, make a plan to achieve it and then work
on that plan every single day. (Brian Tracy)

What is your book of dreams?

Over the holidays, I read thru several ancient and modern books about
success philosophy and Id like to share something that struck me hard. It validates
what most successful people are already doing. According to Aristotle (Greek
philosopher), Man is a teleological organism (Sounds Greek--obviously, LOL).
My take on this is that success in its purest form is happiness. The key to happiness
is in the root word, teleos, which means goals.
All of us set goals big and small, important or trivial. But the choice to
meaningful goals is really up to us on what we choose.
- to play badminton or candy crush as soon as we wake up
- to take our routine work with a boss that we do not like every day
- to line up for a ticket on lottos grand prize
- to create a balanced life centered on family/faith values and supported by sound financial/fitness road
map.

(Pause for a while and write within three minutes your answers to the questions)
How much do you want to earn this year, next year and five years from today?
What kind of a lifestyle do you want to create for yourself and your family?
How would your health be different if it was perfect in every way?
How much do you want to save and accumulate in the course of your working
lifetime?
A DREAM is just a wish. GOALS make our dreams happen especially if we plan and work
on them every day when we wake up. Eventually you will achieve them through learning and
hard work.
REMEMBER: DREAMS MUST BE WRITTEN.
What you cannot describe you cannot measure.
What you cannot measure- you cannot monitor.
EntrepCircle Report | V2.01 | January 2014 Page 9

What you cannot monitor you cannot manage.

Finally what you cannot manage you cannot MULTIPLY!
There are no unrealistic goals, only unrealistic deadlines.

I am so excited that Ive exceeded the pages assigned already. LOL

Im still in the Dean mode and just wanted to make sure that your new year is off to a good start.
I still have one more POINT and this is the BEST!

Having Trust (In God)

HERES THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF R.I.G.H.T.

because without the HT your Right only becomes RIG.
Having Trust in Gods will and having trust in Gods timing
instill purpose and meaning into everything that you do.
We all want good things to happen in our lives, but too
often we want it now, not later. When it doesnt happen that
way, we are tempted to ask, When, God, when? Most of us
need to grow in the area of trusting God instead of focusing on
the when question.
If youre missing joy and peace, youre not trusting God.
If your mind feels worn out all the time, youre not trusting God.
REMEMBER: As man proposes God disposes.
Let me end as always with a scripture from the Old Testament:

How great is your goodness, which you have stored up for those who fear you,
which you have bestowed in the sight of men on those who take refuge in you. (Psalms
31:19)

Say Yes to Home Mortgage By Maves Salva-Angeles

When we leverage, we aggregate and organize existing resources

to achieve success.
Richie Norton,The Power of Starting Something Stupid

One day I had a conversation with my client. He said, You know at

my age until now I never mortgaged our houseits clean. I dont want
mychildren to use this for mortgage. Im afraid that if we mortgage this
house that weve invested for so many years, it will be foreclosed.
I certainly agree with my client. Never use your home for mortgage,
if I may addfor luxury. But mortgage your home to earn more income
and more importantly, do real estate business.
That clean title of yours youve been holding for a long time can help you and your family have better financial
position. Take these reasons to give you the guts and the courage to say Yes to Mortgage.

Let me give you 3 Major Reasons to say yes to home mortgage.

1. Home Improvement. Not for aesthetic purposes but toadd more floors and rooms so that youll have more space to
lease out. I really love to share this. When we were still renting our house, I leased out my own bed to my girl best
friend who was from the province. She lived with us while we were still studying college here in Manila. She paid us
P1,000 per month. For more than a year, we shared the same bed. I know that strategy is too personal. But, how
much more can you earn if you own your own house and can accommodate more people by adding more rooms and
floors. You wanted to add more income right? Im sure you can do better than what I did. With what I have done, I
improved my relational skills, balancing my family and friend at home by having more patience. More rooms, beds
and floors mean more income. Say yes to mortgage, say yes to more income.

2. Build New House/Apartment for Sale/Rent. In building a new house, the loan releases are staggered based on the
rate of construction to make sure that you only use the money for building the house and finish the construction on
time. Amortization normally starts after the construction. You still have room to market and sell/rent the property
even before you start the amortization. But also be prepared to give yourself 8-12 months buffer that you can afford
the amortization even without a buyer or renter. If you have a buffer fund for this, you will have peace of mind that
you can sell/rent the property at the right price and right client. Then, say yes to mortgage, say yes to more income

3. Buy a new house to sell or to rent. If youre buying a property, the one that you are buying can be used for home
loan collateral. But if you own your home and can also be used for mortgaged, You can use the two property to have
a bigger capacity to get a bigger or more house. Of course there are other factors for granting you a bigger loan. To
simplify this, if you own a property now and its clean titled, you can also use that to increase your capacity to buy
property that allows you to buy bigger or more units of property instead of just one. You can buy a duplex or series
of apartment. Say yes to mortgage, say yes to more income.
All of these are ways to generate more income to help you have better financial position and secure your familys
future. If you own your house now, monetize it. Say yes to mortgage. Then the income that you generate from your real
estate business, use it to invest in the stock market for your retirement and reinvest in your real estate business. The cycle
goes and on and on. Generate income through your real estate business then invest in the stock market until you retire
and reap your harvest.

3 More important lessons when you mortgage your house:

1. Initially get the longest possible term that you can. Get 10 years 15 years, or 20 years. Why? For you to get lower
EntrepCircle Report | V2.01 | January 2014 Page 12

amortization and easy to pay. Rule of thumb maximum amortization that you can afford is 30 percent of your gross
income.

2. When you have extra cash, pay the principal to shorten your term. Though youve got the longest term, it doesnt
mean that you will pay that long. If possible whenever you have extra cash, pay it directly to principal amount of your
loan. Look for banks that offer that kind of amortization scheme.

3. Mortgage your house only for REAL ESTATE business.Mortgage debt is a good debt only if used for real estate
business. You use an asset to buy another asset that is income generating and secure. Good real estate property will
always be acceptable as collateral in such that whatever happens to your selling or renting, you can always have that
property to run and can create ways to reclaim cash from it. Maximize the use of your ROYAL property. I encourage
you step out of your comfort zone. Say yes to home mortgage.

Shop and hop for great home loan deals out in the market. Use what you have now but dont let your property be
foreclosed. Be focused on your goal of generating income out of your home loan. Start in your most creative way, your own
real estate business

Continue to love and inspire others. Happy Real Estate Investing!

Recover and Rebound from Trauma of a

Disaster Using NLP (Part 2) By Jojo Apolo

This is part 2 of the article and here we will talk about how to help a loved one rebound from recurring or chronic
trauma.
I have used this technique to help someone overcome the pain of losing 11 relatives and family members killed in
the recent typhoon. Another lost her closest family: mother, father and two other brothers, and their home was literally
flattened to the ground. She only survived because she was travelling during the typhoon and came home to see nothing
left. I have also used this technique to help someone overcome depression, recurring panic attacks, trauma of being raped,
molested, kidnapped, abandoned, experiencing violence at childhood.
You may have observed these symptoms of someone with recurring or chronic trauma. The person will continue to
suffer these symptoms months and years after the event:
repeated, distressing memories / nightmares or sleep disturbances;
acting or feeling as if the event were still happening;
intense distress when exposed to images or sounds resembling the event;
efforts to avoid anything that could remind you of the event;
inability to experience a normal range of emotions and interest in life;
not planning and acting as if life had a future;
difficulty concentrating, or relaxing, or difficulty
sleeping; and,
sudden anger / startle responses.

The standard norm is to wait a couple of months for

a person to be declared as having post traumatic stress
syndrome (PTSD) but I think if you used the NLP recovery
techniques in the last article, then you will be able to predict
faster if the person has recurring or chronic traumas.
Therefore, for people who are not able to overcome
trauma using the recovery techniques, you will need
something more potent to help. I call this the REBOUND
PATTERN. This is developed and modified to suit disasters
from the Fast Trauma Cure Pattern by John Grinder and
Richard Bandler.

NLP Rebound Pattern

R - Ready Yourself
As a first step, it is important the intervention team or facilitator be in peak state while doing the intervention because
someone with low spirits or even hurting will not be effective in helping the victims. This step trains the intervention team
or facilitator to be in a resourceful state through the NLP technique called anchoring. This will help the team to have a
ready power anchor they can use anytime they feel overwhelmed by the negative environment. You can reread my article
in EntrepCircle last March 2013 where I describe the process for making a power anchor. Or you can email us at jojo.
apolo@i-takeheart.com or download directly from our website: www.i-takeheart.com.

E - Establish Rapport
If the person is a relative or a loved one, then you will not have any problems of connecting with them and establishing
rapport. You can also review the article I wrote in EntrepCircle April 2013 on how to build rapport with anyone in three
minutes.
EntrepCircle Report | V2.01 | January 2014 Page 13

B - Background and Clear Outcome

Background
Prior to using the techniques, the facilitator will calibrate the intensity
of the emotional pain from the traumatic event by asking the person to judge
from a scale of 1 10 with 10 as the most intense. Ask the person to see and
hear again the traumatic event and rate the impact. If you see the person
disturbed or in tears then you do not need to ask them to rate it. You already
know it is a 10.
Ask the question, Do you remember an earlier time that you felt the
same way as now? More often, the current traumatic event was caused by
an earlier event and this is the memory that needs to be collapsed.

Clear Outcome
Ask the person what outcome does he want? How will they know that they have overcome this traumatic experience?
How important is this to them?

O - Observe Onscreen
Ask the person to close their eyes and relax. Have them imagine being inside a movie house and seated in the middle
of the cinema. Have them float to the projector room safely inside the glass room and watching themselves seated in the
middle of the cinema and the screen. Anchor this feeling of control and double-dissociation.
You can also have the person imagine themselves looking at a blank TV screen with a video attached. Have them float
out of their body and behind themselves. Tell them that they are in control of the video (you can give them a remote
to use) and can change any of the qualities of the picture.

U - Unleash Better Choice

This is the process where we will enable the subconscious mind of the person to make a better choice. Here we edit
the sub-modalities. (For an explanation of sub-modalities, ready my article on EntrepCircle July 2013.)
Reduce Visual Fears/Pains: Have them run a movie or video of the fearful situation (the causal event of the trauma)
in black and white, all the way through to the time of comfort and safety.
Reduce Auditory/Kinesthetic/Auditory Digital Fears/Pains: Determine the other sub-modalities of the trauma in
terms of auditory or kinesthetic sub-modalities.
Ask if there is a sound that can be heard. If yes, ask how loud is the sound from a scale 1-10 with 10 as loudest. Then
ask client to use control panel in projector room or remote control to reduce volume slowly from 10, 9, 8 ... until 0. Ask if
there is still a sound.
Ask also if there is an inner voice speaking to the client on how to react. You can also remove this inner voice or change
its credibility by changing the tone of the voice.
You can also ask them to change the sound with funny music or their favorite music. Watch their face. If there is a
smile, then the good music has changed the tone of the memory already.
The harsh words said can be changed in tone by changing the speakers voice to a high or low pitch, to Mickey Mouse,
Donald Duck or others. Be creative.
Ask if there is any feeling of touch, smell or taste that they have and how intense it is from a scale of 1-10.
If there is a feeling of touch, use the wind as a metaphor from a strong wind to a light breeze and none at all. (Note you
can invent your own creative ways of representing the touch through pictures.)
If it is smell, then let the client picture a vacuum siphoning the smell off and the odor meter registering from 10, 9, 8
and down to 0 as fresh wind comes in. Ask what is the scale of the smell after. (Note you can invent your own creative ways
of representing the smell through pictures.)
If there is any taste, then let the client imagine a whirlpool of water gushing down to the tongue and cleaning it
thoroughly. Ask what is the new scale of the taste. (Note you can invent your own creative ways of representing the taste
through pictures.)
Fade Memory: Have the client watch the screen again and ask them to let the screen move back a meter. Ask if the
screen is becoming blurred or grayish. Move the screen back slowly and continuously until they cannot see the screen
anymore.

N - New Movie ( Future Pacing )

Ask them to rejoin their body in the middle of the cinema but still watching the screen or TV. Ask the client to watch the
screen and now watch in bright colors a movie/video about them able to overcome the trauma or already in a very happy
state. Observe the persons face and posture. Is there a smile or peaceful face? If yes, ask them to jump out of the screen
and rejoin with their bodies. Let them see from their own eyes how they have overcome their trauma.

D - Develop Independence
At this stage, we need to make the person realize that it was his/her own effort that enabled healing so that he/she
will not be dependent on you. How do we do this?
Check. Ask them a question in this manner: This will be unlikely, but if there should be even the slightest signal
of the previous pain, then please contact me again so that I can clean up any last dust of the problem. However, I suggest
that your subconscious now has the healing process worked out and can continue to heal and restore yourself to vibrant
health.
Make them realize that now they have overcome with their own accord. Emphasize that they may be confused at this
stage because their conscious mind is telling them they must be fearful but deep within they cannot feel any fear. This is
concrete evidence that the subconscious mind is now in the healing process and will restore them to vibrant health.
As an ending, you can ask them to re-rate their fear level and if it is three or more, repeat the entire process, making
sure they do each step thoroughly.
Recently, I helped someone overcome the death of a loved one. Ten years ago, her husband died but she could not
overcome the pain. This is a very clear example of recurring or chronic trauma. After the session, she emailed me a thank
you note: (I am keeping her name for confidentiality purposes.)

Hi Jojo!
I would like to THANK YOU so much for the healing that you did for me. It feels so wonderful and like I am so
complete, assured and have a renewed sense of energy and strength! Its actually quite difficult to explain how
fantastic I feel. Use of any superlative would be apt! I hope and constantly pray that I will be able to stay this
way as a lifestyle. I look forward to being able to live and experience the success points that we discussed prior
to the session. The experience of being with Jesus and my late husband was truly awesome and like a glimpse of
heaven! I cannot find the right words to be able to truly describe what it was like. Im looking forward to live this to
completion. As it is, some have been happening already. Truly amazing!
Thank you again. May Our Father continue to bless you so you may continue to help people like us!

You Can Help a Loved One Rebound from a Trauma!

Yes, you can also learn this process and use it with your loved ones. Many have read my
book or listened to my DVD or attended our seminars and learned to use the Rebound Pattern
to overcome traumas. Its your turn to help a love oned! You will feel so much joy when you help
another person.
Visit us also in our website: www.i-takeheart.com where we have posted some video
training of the techniques. If you want concrete examples of this process, you can also avail of my
book Be Free from Painful Memories and Traumas in 30 Minutes at National Bookstore or at The
Feast in PICC where more examples, detailed steps, and a transcript for healing is given.

How to Naturally Attract Media Presence

for Your Business: An Interview with Young
Entrepreneur Trixie Barretto Esguerra By Sha Nacino

Trixie Barretto Esguerra is a brilliant host by passion and an entrepreneur by profession. Her businesses include Wrap
it Up!, a business of touching hearts with arts and Its a Match!, your love store-y, a couple store catering to lovers and
even single people looking for gifts for their couple friends.
She has hosted several events which include the Barretto 2nd Grand Reunion. She has also guested in TV shows of
almost all TV networks such as Umagang Kay Ganda, Unang Hirit, MARS, Good Morning Club, Rated K, and Kabuhayang
Swak na Swak.
Trixie and I have known each other for about three years because we both belong to the same Toastmasters Club.
During our Toastmasters Clubs 25th anniversary, Trixie, who was then our Vice President for Public Relations,
sponsored the gift wrapping of our tokens and special gifts. When I unwrapped
my own gift, I was awed at how the wrapping was professionally done, with full
attention to details. The gift wrap alone made me feel so special! No wonder
their clients love them. No wonder, Trixie is often invited to guest in TV shows
featuring her business.
Lets uncover Trixies secrets.

SHA: Hi Trix! Quick question. How do you juggle your time among your
activities: your two businesses Wrap it Up and Its a Match and at the same time
attend to your hosting duties?

TRIXIE: I schedule my activities and tasks. Wrap It Up! is my main business

and as a marketing manager and owner, I devote most of my time to it. Its a
Match is now being handled by my brother though I still assist with marketing as
well. During weekends, I get to do what I love to do the most. I host parties. I do
debuts, weddings, workshops, and seminars. To keep my sanity, Sha, I jot down
everything I must do no matter how flexible my schedule is.

SHA: I understand you used to work for DTI after you graduated from
college. What inspired you to leave your job and pursue entrepreneurship?

TRIXIE: I worked for the family business right away a few months prior to graduation.Curious to see what it is like
to work outside, two years after, I joined DTIs Center for International Trade, Expositions and Missions (CITEM). I was in
charge of taking care of the countrys foreign buyers during their trips here for Manila FAME and I also handled ex-deals
with local company sponsors. It was hard and tough but because of it, I came to appreciate more what I have. I realized that
there is no greater satisfaction and challenge than attending and growing your own businesses.

SHA: What were the challenges you experienced along the way?

TRIXIE: Prioritizing things and allotting time for every single matter were very challenging to me. Up until today, I still
find my tasks all in one of the four quadrants urgent and important. Haha. Fortunately, my mom, as an entrepreneur
herself, isa great mentor and I am very lucky to witness every day how she balances her business and personal life. Oh,
one of the biggest challenges also was that I used to ask myselfif this is really what I wanted. Questions like what if I
applied in multinational companies, what if I tried abroad, what would have happened? Would my life be better? I seemed
to think hard about the things I did not do. And that didnt really help. Thus, I learned to count my blessings and realized
EntrepCircle Report | V2.01 | January 2014 Page 16

that probably, embracing what I already have was the better thing to do. And I knew it did. It led me to paths I am most
thankful for.

SHA: Lets talk about your businesses Wrap it Up and Its a Match. How do you market your services?

TRIXIE: Wrap It Up! is in the business of touching hearts with arts. We cater to clients who want the nicest packaging
of their gifts, the sweetest balloon arrangements and now, just in time for Valentines, the most unique chocolate
bouquets. Wrap it Up! also conducts workshops on gift wrapping and balloon making. Our 6th run will be on February 8 in
Mandaluyong City.
Our clients would walk-in, come to our stores and have their gift wrapping done. For our regular clients of personalized
ribbons, they would just send us emails.
Its a Match, in SM Calamba, is a couple store catering to lovers and even single people looking for gifts for their
couple friends. Both stores can be seen in the malls and can be contacted through Facebook, Instagram, e-mail and mobile.

SHA: Youve been invited to guest in TV shows such as Umagang Kay Ganda, Unang Hirit, MARS, Good Morning Club,
Rated K,and Kabuhayang Swak na Swak. What does it take to guest in these shows and how did these shows help boost
your sales?

TRIXIE: Let me tell you a secret, Sha. I pay them to guest me.
Just kidding!
I do not have a budget for that so I grab most of the mediaopportunities that come our way.
Wrap It Up! started getting calls from TV researchers many years ago. Probably because they see us in the malls
andwere one of the pioneers in this business. Iwould like to alsothinkthat they like what they see. Old researchers
would contact us every peak season for different features while the new ones would learn about us through our website
or through Google.
Once they see our pages, they would also see the interviews weve had
and that I think encourages them to feature us.I would get calls in the afternoon
asking us to guest live for the following morning, with a call time of 5 am.
Sometimes, they would want taped episodes which will be done at the store. In
terms of sales, we get a lot of inquiries if our details are flashed on the TV screen.
Otherwise, it takes some time for people to know but it pays off eventually.
It also helps if you keep all your media friends contact numbers so you can
text them during the holidays and so when its time for them to look for a story
to tell, old or new, the chances are higher that they will remember you.

SHA: What advice can you give young graduates who want to venture into business right after graduation?

TRIXIE: If you have the means and the guts, go! You are what our country needs entrepreneurs. When it comes to
passion, it is always best to follow your heart. If you feel and think that you want to do it right away, then by all means, do
it. But remember, it wouldnt hurt to get experience from other companies. Its okay whether you start your own business
now or later. Whats important is that you will make it happen in your lifetime.

touch with Trixie, you can contact her at 09088619313or send her an e-mail attrixie.b.esguerra@gmail.com. You may also
