To Whom It May Concern:

My name is Lyric Day, I am writing to you on behalf of the Syrian refugee crisis. As you probably well know,
over 470,000 Syrians have been killed in the war. That death toll was taken in April of 2016, imagine how many
more deaths have been added to that list. I know my opinion may not be much but please take into consideration
that being in a harmful environment affects children vastly. I understand what it is like to be in a bad
environment. Living in East Oakland for a couple years still affects me to this day. Hearing gunshots and
ambulances most of the day and often nights has caused me to be afraid of fireworks. When I was younger I
watched my uncle be shot before my eyes. Would you want a child to experience that?

I understand that for over 6 years the Syrian conflict has been a worldwide topic. The Tribune Service states
that Islamic State (Isis) also wants us to turn away Syrian and other Muslim refugees. Turning away the
refugees is allowing Isis to perform more inhumane acts on innocent people. Not only are inhumane acts being
performed but people have killed themselves because they had no way out of the war. Not bringing the refugees
in is just as inhuman as killing them.

The Syrian crisis today is similar to the WWII refugee crisis when the U.S. was asked to take in the
Syrian Jews but did not out of fear for plans being compromised by terrorist attacks. It is also similar
in the way that many were being killed and could not escape. Thus proving that history repeats itself.
I disagree with the current arrangement. People in need should be accepted. Thousands of innocents are dying
and the U.S. is standing by allowing it to happen. Letting the refugees in would allow a new generation to live
and have a better life rather than dying at a young age. Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,

Lyric A. Day
