Exterior lighting undergoes a selection process similar to that
used with every other element of a project: ls it functionally
efficient as well as pleasing to the eye? Does it work in the
specific space? Will it endure years of rigorous use? Can it be
installed and maintained with a minimum of effort? Is the man-
ufacturer known to be reputable and willing to stand behind
the product? Is superior value received?
Lithonia Architectural Outdoor declares a resounding "yes" to
each of these specifier questions, and presents the KQ Series
of post-top luminaires as proof. The square KQS and centri-
form KQR shapes are appropriate for parking lots, plazas or
walkways. The finely detailed housings are mounted on
brushed aluminum legs which seem to disappear when viewed
from a distance. There is no sense of great mass at the top of
each pole; rather the luminaire virtually "floats,' allowing the
other site elements to dominate.

Crisply squared corners on the KQS create a clean silhouette
against the sky when installed. A choice of two opticai systems
ensures flexibility to match distribution patterns to site require-
ments. Reflectors hinge out for servicing and are field inter
changeable. Dark bronze TCIC polyester powder finish is
standard, with nine other architectural colors available.

The classic round KQR shape is well-suited to new construc
tion or retrofit. Both Type V Square and Type lll Asymrnetric
distributions are offered. Electrical components are unitized
on a removable power module with quick disconnect plugs
on primary and secondary. A positive locking device retains
the housing in an open position during servlcing. Alonq with
the standard dark bronze TCIC polyester powder finish. Ar
chitectural Class I dark bronze anodize is available as an op-
tion. as well as other painted finishes.

All reflectors pass IES "cutoff' criteria. Lithonia Architectural
Outdoor reflectors are made from reflector-grade aluminum
alloys, anodized, brightened and sealed. Each reflector is sPe
cific to the distribution. No compromises such as different
socket settings or add-on shields are tolerated.
Type III
Cutoff (R3)
The asymmetric Type lll distribution is extremely versatile
in application. Faceted specular elements combine with
parabolic contours to achieve high performance uniform
it}, around thc perimeters of a sile.
Type V Square
Cutoff (R5S)
The symmetric Type V Square distribution is the ideal
choice for illuminating the center portion of a Parking lot
or other open area. A square distribution can result in
fewer poles and luminaires on a project because light
overlap is eliminated.

Lighting, is a comprehensive yet user friendly PC based
software package developed by Lithonia Lighting. The pro-
grams have been extremely well-received by lighting de-
signers around the country, garnering high marks for ease
of operation and program design. Reviewed in the IES mag-
azine "Lighting Design + APplication ' in October 1988, the
evaluator said "lt does all the things one would want from
a lighting design piece ... without any reservation, SPEC-L
is ihe easiest lighting program that I have run."
