Summary of the Event (at least 3 major points; each point will have its own paragraph):

On Tuesday October 4th, 2016, the Vice Presidential debate took place in Farmville,
Virginia at Longwood University. Typically during the presidential election year, there will be
at least one vice presidential debate. This years debate featured vice presidential nominees,
Democratic Senator Tim Kaine and Republican Governor Mike Pence. Most debates will feature
a moderator and will field questions from a panel or just from the moderator. This year the
moderator, Elaine Quijano, asked the nominees questions. Vice Presidential debates in the past
have offered up some memorable moments. These include moments such as when Texas
Senator Lloyd Bentsen, reacting to Republican vice presidential nominee assertion that he was
similar to President John F. Kennedy. Bentsen famously responded Senator, you're no John
Kennedy. Or, when Republican Vice Presidential nominee, Sarah Palin, stated Say it aint so
Joe to Democratic nominee Joe Biden. This years debate was notable for what the
candidates did not say, but not for lack of trying. Once the debate began, the two nominees
wasted no time not only in attacking one another but also in constantly interrupting each other.
By some estimates, the candidates interrupted each other over 100 times. The moderator did her
best to keep things in order but the candidates continued to interrupt one another. This seemed
like a ploy to me, one is which the idea is not allow your opponent to gain any momentum . This
is done by constantly interrupting your opponent when they are attempting to state their position.

Current Event 1 Tim Kaine couldn't stop interrupting Mike
Pence during the vice presidential debate

To me this debate did not satisfy any preconceived expectation. The lack of common

courteous accomplished nothing and left a bad taste in my mouth. To me this was more of a

grudge match than a debate to me. I could not tell which platform either of the candidates were

on; or if any of the candidates really provided a coherent set of answers to the problems

plaguing our nation. In short I believe that this debate accomplished nothing and only showed

how divided this nation is.

Relate your Event to a Historical Event (compare and contrast with current event):

A historical event that this article can relate to is the political tensions that existed prior to

the Civil War. Tensions at this point between the leading political parties. As was clearly seen in

the debate between Pence and Caine. Tensions were extremely high and ultimately nothing was

accomplished. You can see a very identical problem in the nation and between the candidates.

Relate your Event to the a Theme:

A theme I can relate this article to is political ideologies. Political ideologies has

historically differed between the two parties. As we can see in this article political tensions are at

an all time high. These tensions will most likely get worse before they can get better.
