About the Programme

Bachelor of Science in Computing

The Bachelor of Science in computing awarded by the
University of Portsmouth is a specialized degree course
for candidates interested in the area of database and
systems development.

This programme imparts knowledge of the technologies

and methods relevant for creating and maintaining
computing systems that support business data handling
requirements of organizations. It deals with the creation
of effective information technology systems such as
solutions to business problems, as well as the
management of such systems.

This is an Ordinary degree (non-honours) and can be

awarded with Merit or with Distinction for candidates
that meet the University’s requirements.

The course can be completed in a minimum of 6

Applicants need to show documentary evidence of
past educational achievements listed as follows or
previous and relevant working experience in an
Information Technology or Computing environment.

G NCC International Higher Diploma in Computer
Studies
G British Computer Society (BCS) Part 1 by
examination
G Institute for the Management of Information System
(IDPM) Higher Diploma
G BTEC Higher Diploma (HND) in Computer Studies
G Other Diploma/Advanced Diploma/Higher Diplomas
from IT-related fields subject to acceptance by the
University of Portsmouth
G Holders of other tertiary or professional education
(not issued by Polytechnics/Institutions in
Singapore) are required to take the Professional
Integration Programme (PIP) which consists of

Method of Delivery
This programme provides you an integrated learning
methodology which comprises of three modes of study;
e-Learning, local tutorials and Campus modules
(Optional). This is a blended modular programme
which allows you a high degree of flexibility and
convenience of a modular system, incorporating
elements of face to face tutorials, integrated with the
online e-Learning methodology through
PurpleTrain.com. Within the limits of the course
schedule outlined, you can select some modules to
attend tutorials within the country, one of the module
to attend classes in Informatics Campus and some
modules to do online from anywhere in the world, as
long as there is an internet connection.
The affordability and unique integrated methodology
of this programme is ideal if you are a full-time student
or a part-time learner who wish to pursue a higher
education. In addition, you will also get to experience
a different campus environment and to meet face-to-
face with the lecturers, tutors and overseas classmates
that they have been interacting with via the e-Campus
tutorials."

by completing a minimum of 3
more modules within a period of 5 years

Coursework and Examinations

Examinations are scheduled in the months of April, August and December

each year. Students will be informed of the designated examination venues
and time.

Students are assessed by means of both coursework and written examinations

in each module. To pass a module a student must gain an overall mark of
at least 40% from the weighted coursework and examinations marks. The
weights attached to each component vary from module to module.

All examination dates set are final and requests for changes will not be
accepted. The examination timetable and venue will be posted on
PURPLETRAIN.COM and students can access this information directly via
the Internet.
