Solemnity of Pentecost
The entire Easter season has been pointing to todays celebration of Pentecost. The
sacred 50 days of Easter find their culmination in todays commemoration of the Ho-
ly Spirit coming to the apostles and Mary. It marks the birth of the Church. As we
celebrate the outpouring of the Holy Spirit we are reminded of the many ways we
are called to participate in the ongoing work of salvation through our own baptism and confirma-
tion. The message and mission of the Church continues in the present day through the lives of
the faithful who proclaim in word and deed the mystery of Christs dying and rising. May the
Holy Spirit strengthen us in our unique mission to declare to the world Gods saving love made
known to us in Jesus the Lord.

is eternal (heaven), not what will pass away (earth). May we always stand in

world and the Church. May we be free from sin to maintain our union with
God and may we reflect His love as we are united with our brothers and sis-
