Under neutral environment, Corrosion rate of steel was controlled
by diffusion of oxygen to cathodic reaction site.

Corrosion rate is calculated by Equation below,

CO 2
I z F DO 2 20A / cm 0.2mm / y
2

ICorrosion current density A/cm2)
Z: number of electrons per corrosion reaction (4)
Generally, Corrosion rate in
FFaraday constant105 C/mol), Fresh water shows 0.1mm/y.
DO2:diffusion coefficient of dissolved oxygen (10-5 cm/s),
CO2: concentration of dissolved oxygen 2.510-7mol/cm3)
thickness of oxygen diffusion layer (510-2cm)

O2 Corrosion rust layer works to

O2 Rust layer prevent oxygen diffusion.
