Beat ramps up for APES

By Jessica Howard

After four-years in the making, indie-

rock quartet APES have dropped their
highly anticipated debut album.
The band, previously hailing from
Bacchus Marsh and Ballarat, have
released 11 sharp and diverse tracks
that make up their first release, Stranger
than Strangers.
The record has already received a
number of commendable reviews from
the likes of Rolling Stone Australia,
Beat Magazine and SYN FM.
Frontman, Ben Dowd said the release
was a huge relief.

Vital volunteers
Any volunteer is vital to an organisation
and over 120 from Djerriwarrh Health
Services attended a luncheon in their
honour last week.
Andrew Freeman CEO DjHS, said the
organisation has a proud history of
volunteers, all the way back to the first
volunteer in 1954.
There are over 230 volunteers with us
today.
Volunteers play a vital role in the success of
our programs. Without them, the programs
would not be able to function.
Ten volunteers today have reached a
cumulative total of 300 years service.
We have one ten year service award; four
20 years; two 25 years; one 30 year and
extraordinarily, two volunteers have both
clocked up 55 years of service as volunteers.
I thank you all for the work you do and the
contribution you make, Mr Freeman said. Carmel Berry (20 years Ladies Aux.) Valerie Dickson (20 years Friendly Visiting) Lynette Young (20 years Meals on Wheels)

Bacchus Marsh Little Athletics

The Bacchus Marsh Cross Country Open Day was held at Bullengarook Recreation Reserve
last Saturday and was another successful event for the Centre. The Centre welcomed visiting
athletes from Altona, Ballarat, Essendon, Gisborne, Mentone and Werribee Centres and all
were outstanding representatives for their individual Centres.
All races commenced on the Reserve oval before heading out into the bush-land, prior to
finishing back on the oval. Events were held for athletes in the Under 6 age group through to
Under 16s. Adult races were also conducted for the parents, with the men competing over a
3000 metre distance and the women 1500 metres.
The final award was presented to the Gisborne Little Athletics Centre who won the BMLAC
Perpetual Trophy, gaining the most points for the Open Day.
Next week the Centre will return to their weekly meet to be held at the Myrniong Reserve
at 10.30am.
