The Clutch Division of Eaton Corporation has its origin way back in 1938. Then known as the Auburn
Clutch Company, manufacturing operations started with the production of a line of clutches designed
primarily for agricultural and industrial applications.
Continuous investment in design and development led to vast technological improvements and new
designs to the clutch range. By the early 1940's clutches were being supplied to several automotive,
earthmoving and truck manufacturers.
In 1968, further research and development produced the patented Angle Spring Clutch. This has
become the industry standard replacing the previous direct pressure and diaphragm spring designs.
In late 1997, Eaton Corporation and Dana Corporation agreed on an historic deal: Eaton would sell its
axle and brake business to Dana, and Dana would sell its clutch business to Eaton. Then, the two
former competitors came together in a marketing agreement whereby a complete commercial vehicle
drivetrain of components produced by both companies would be marketed by Eatons sales and
marketing force providing truck makers and fleets around the world with a complete drivetrain system
The Roadranger System.

General Information
This catalogue contains a range of the most common Eaton Fuller Clutches marketed in Australasia.
For specific application requirements contact Eaton Pty Ltd, Australia.
The Angle Ring Clutch is a push type single plate clutch available in 310mm, 330mm or 350mm sizes to
suit engines that develop up to 500lb ft of torque. Driven discs are available in a range of spline sizes.
The 14" Stamped Angle Spring models suit engines with flat flywheels that develop up to 1050 lb ft of
torque. It is a pull type clutch available in either single or twin plate configurations with 1 .5", 1.75" or 2" -
10 spline sizes.
Now rated up to 2250 lbs ft torque with the release of our new Vibration Control Discs (VCT).
Pull type clutches are available in 14" cast versions to suit pot flywheels and 15.5" cast versions for flat
flywheels only. Spline sizes of 1.75" - 10 spline or 2" - 10 or 14 spline are available. These clutches are
designed for heavy and extra heavy applications.
CLUTCH DISCS
An extensive range of dampened driven discs is available from Eaton. Organic or ceramic facings are
supplied to suit the special requirements of operators and in combination with co-axial springs in the
dampened discs, diesel engines with up to 2250lbs ft of torque are catered for.

Overview How to Select a Clutch
! There are two type of facings available, ceramic and organic. Ceramic discs are the most common
type of discs used today. Organic discs are still available for certain applications, however ceramic
discs are recommended for most applications.
! Ceramic discs have become the standard in the industry due to the increased use of high torque
engines.
! Discs with ceramic material require a lower plate load to transmit the equivalent torque compared to
discs with organic material.

Clutch Selection
The most important identifying characteristic of your clutch is the torque rating of the clutch assembly.
DO NOT select an assembly with a rating below the MAXIMUM torque rating of the engine. If the engine
torque exceeds the clutch assembly maximum torque rating, it will cause premature clutch failure!
Information Required:
Please Note: Providing that the clutch assembly being replaced has performed adequately, make sure the
replacement clutch has the same part number or superseding part number.
TORQUE
The engine torque rating should be specified on the engine identification plate. If the torque rating of the
transmission cannot be identified, contact the engine supplier to obtain the maximum torque rating of your
engine.
Note: The maximum horsepower of the engine does not indicate the suitability of a clutch.
DISC TYPE
Page F3 of this manual provides a list of discs available. Discs are available with either ceramic or
organic facings. Discs can be dampened or rigid. Eaton Australia does not recommend the use of rigid
discs for truck applications.
FLYWHEEL TYPE
Pot
Recessed - This type of flywheel has a deep recess machined into the facing of the flywheel to enable the
clutch discs and the intermediate plate to be located within the flywheel.
Flat
This type of flywheel is flat therefore the clutch discs and the intermediate plate are accommodated in the
clutch cover assembly.
Input Shaft
The clutch assembly is located on the transmission input shaft. The input shaft is available in different
diameters, with the most common type being 1.75" and 2" - 10 spline shafts.

NOTES:
If flywheel bore is 7", you can only use an 8 spring damper.
If flywheel bore is 8.5", you can use a 10 spring or an 8 spring (8 spring limited to 1400 lbft torque)
If flywheel bore is 10" you can use a 7, 6 (VCT), 10 or 8 spring (recommend a 7 spring or 6 spring VCT).
If you have a 10" flywheel bore, do not use organic facings. The facing I.D. will extend into flywheel bore
opening and clutch plate friction surface will not have full facing contact.

Solo Clutches - Stamped 14"
# These clutch assemblies contain a spacer fitted inside the clutch cover which limits the travel of the
release sleeve, preventing the release bearing from coming into contact with the front of the
transmission. These clutch covers are for use with synchromesh transmissions, which do not use a
clutch brake.

Clutch Release Yoke
The Eaton-Fuller XL clutch uses a specially designed release yoke (97-509-10-1X) and release bearing
housing. The roller yoke can only be used with XL (eXtended Lube) clutches.
The roller yoke WILL NOT fit Eaton Fuller EP 2000, Easy-Pedal Plus, Angle Spring, Stamped Angle
Spring and Solo Clutches.
The roller yoke provides smoother operation and reduced bushing and bearing wear.
The XL clutch incorporates a sealed, premium lubed-for life release bearing which reduces lubrication
requirements and an improved steel backed bushing which resists wear and provides increased service
life.

Glossary
Adjusting-Ring Threaded level support ring inside clutch. Needs to be rotated toward
flywheel to keep proper angle relationship between pressure springs and
levers. Is turned via Kwik-Adjust.
Angle Ring Push type clutch whose key feature is its Belleville spring and lever design,
providing constant plate load, and thus maintaining good engagement
throughout its entire life. Also, because the spring is isolated from the
pressure plate, damage from heat transfer is virtually eliminated. Available
in 310mm, 330mm and 350mm sizes.
Co-axial (CO) Dampened centre clutch discs have a spring centre that contain Co-axial
springs. This is a spring within a spring, an inner and an outer, and are
designed to dampen critical vibrations in high torque engines.
Clutch Brake Brake device located on the transmission input shaft of unsynchronized
transmissions behind clutch release bearing. Sandwiched between back
cover of clutch release bearing and front surface of transmission input shaft
bearing cover. Used to slow or stop excess rotation within transmission
when selecting first or reverse while vehicle is stationary.
Dampened Disc A series of springs that surround the disc hub and compress as they absorb
torsional vibrations throughout the drivetrain.
Easy-Pedal 14 and 15.5 pull type release clutches are the most usable and advanced
in the industry. Easy Pedal clutches contain assist springs which produce
lighter pedal effort without compromising performance.
Free Travel Where the dampening disc design offers built-in free travel allowing the disc
hub to move around 1.5 in either direction before engaging the dampening
springs, thereby reducing gear rattle when the engine is at idle.
Intermediate Plate Cast iron plate between front and rear driven discs. Reduces wear by
absorbing and diffusing heat.
Kwik-Adjust Small gear which, when depressed, engages adjusting ring allowing it to be
turned to maintain fine adjustment for maintaining correct release bearing
position.
Positive Separator Pin Steel pegs positioned in the protruding tabs of the intermediate plate to
ensure a constant gap on both sides of the discs as the clutch is released.
This assures smoother engagement and cooler operation resulting in longer
life.

Glossary
Powerthread A more robust adjusting ring design incorporating coarser threads making for
easy adjustments (NOTE: Powerthread is only available on 15.5" models).
Pressure Plate Cast iron plate that squeezes driven disc(s) against the engine flywheel. It is
secured to the clutch flywheel ring by springs on earlier models or by drive
straps on current model 15.5" clutches, eliminating lug driven pressure plate
noise, reducing vibration and improving clutch assembly balance.
Push Type Clutches The release bearing is pushed towards the flywheel to disengage the clutch.
Pull Type Clutches The release bearing is pulled away from the flywheel to disengage the
clutch.
Rigid Disc A clutch disc that has no damper springs and therefore cannot absorb the
vibrations and high torque loads of todays engines. These are very rarely
used and not normally recommended.
Roller Yoke Release bearing yoke with rollers which eliminate vertical loading, providing
smoother operation and reduced bushing and bearing wear. Available for
Maintenance Free (MF) models and Solo eXtended Lube (XL) clutches only.
Stamped Angle Spring (SAS) 14 Medium-Duty pull type release clutch. Comes in both single and twin
plate versions.
