Prewarning time - e.g. 10 seconds - electrical delay

Flooding time - e.g. 7 - 10 seconds (min. 95% of MDC to be evaporated within 10 sec)

9 Minimax 2009
Basics of Design & Layout of Single-Zone
Systems

Flooding time - 95 % of Quantity for Design Concentration to be discharged in 10 s

generally speaking:
100% * 10 s / 95% =
10.5 s are available for complete discharge of design quantity

if we are running hydraulic calculation with bigger quantity

(e.g. with multizone-systems)
we must only observe 95% of MDC within 10 seconds.

Free space around the nozzles acc. VdS

(deviating against CEA 4045 - generally 1m)

MX 200: min. distance from obstacles 1 m

MX 1230: min. distance 0.2 m

min. cylinder diameter in spray direction 0.1 * Lv

due to the smaller vapour pressure of Novec 1230 liquid particles need a longer
distance without obstacles while evaporating. (catchword: evaporation lengths)

Ceiling Obstructions

acceptable 0 to 300 mm

not acceptable > 300 mm

Conclusion: nozzles to be placed in each section (dead zones)

18 Minimax 2009
Basics of Design & Layout of Single-Zone
Systems

Dead Zones

acceptable 0 to 300 mm

If the space above a nozzle installation isnt higher than 300 mm

we mustnt be afraid of any dead zones
(under the assumption that this space keeps combustibles)

19 Minimax 2009
Basics of Design & Layout of Single-Zone
Systems

Position of Nozzles

recommended 100 to 300 mm

Nozzles shouldnt be placed more than 300 mm below the ceiling

but distance also shouldnt be less than 100mm*

*Check evaporation length
