Q1: When did I start to talk? I suppose I am later than others, right?

Tell me
about it. And Do you feel the late first word affects my language learning and
expression?
A1: You spoke your first word around 2. Normally, babies speak their first word
at 12 to 14 months, such as your old sister. So, yes, you are. Its too late
that I was worried you could be a dummy or a mentally retarded child. The truth
is, after the first word, I caught up quickly and even exceeded others. It looks
like you already have the concept of the language, just took a little bit long
time to make the first step. Moreover, you showed some talented in learning the
language. The principal of your kindergarten was impressed by your efficiency.

Q2: I am good at Chinese now, but I wasnt back at primary school. At that time,
do you feel I am different than other children? Especially you went out for three
and a half years, the multi-culture environment you provided to me as a kid in
the poor family, do you realize it helps me learning new stuff today?
A2: Back at hometown when I was not leaving the country to make money, I also
told stories before you sleep. We didnt have the money for story books, so I
told you the story I learned from my school textbooks. I am sure you still
remember the story of Napoleon and the soldier, thats the very first time I
told you something outside the China. I cant make assertions about you since
I left the country for so many years. Yet compared to other children, I always
find you smarter, even your sister believed that. She also told me how good your
memory is. Just listening to the certain melody for a few times, you can sing it
aloud with the lyrics and rhythm.
Q2-1: Did you realize you provide the environment with multiple languages despite
mandarin and English, such as Wu dialect, Cantonese, and Spanish?
A2-1: After I came back to China, you still got your ability to imitation. It
could be a gift in the language if you must say, but as far as I think, your
true talent is in imitation, learning staff quickly.

Q3: I am a talky person now, so in the early time of my life. However, there is
a period between these two I became a silent person. I know the depression is
highly relevant under this issue, but why silent study became the most efficient
method for me to learn Chinese.
A3: Its the necessary time for every kid. Once you started to think, you made
yourself reason and logic. Shyness and nervousness may also contribute to your
behavior. Remember the time when you were a kid and I got you home from the
school. You kept talking about everything happened in the school regardless of
good or bad. Yet years later the family dinner, you couldnt give your new year
toast to all family members. You started to avoid talking about the embarrassed
staff and girls information. What I am trying to say is thinking is the next
period of learning. You became prudent in talking and writing, and prudence makes
you subtle.
Q4: After the second years in junior school when I recovered from encephalitis,
there is a huge lapse of memory. I still do well in history and Chinese
surprisingly. How would we overcome this and find my interests?
A4: I believe you have this interest when you are very young since your grandma
and grandpa took you to enjoy the local opera. You lost most of your memory due
to encephalitis. After recovered from illness, you saved you energy yet you
couldnt catch up math or physical quickly. History and Chinese are easier for
students make progress in a short time. Thats why you performed well in both
subjects.

Q5: Others have highly commented on me while I kept failing important examinations.
How do you response to that?
A5: We did expect you to be a genius, but it just in a way that every parent
believes his or her kid is a genius. You do know we dont put too much pressure
on you. We didnt direct your study or hobbies. The first failure in exam had
already made us realize you are just a normal people as we are. Dont mention
you got encephalitis later. After this, all we hope is a healthy life of you.
When it comes to education, we call ourselves irresponsible parents for sure.
Fortunately, something we occasionally do becomes helpful in your academic life.

Q6: Later in the high school, I started to learn something about Russian, German,
and Spanish. Do you feel surprised when I show my interests in those languages?
However, thats the time my English went down, compared to other students around
me? Did you feel I am doing some work irrelevant to study?
A6: I feel happy, in fact. I have something for you if you want to learn some
Spanish: those tapes, textbooks, and dictionaries. As I mentioned, we dont
positively encourage you to do something. If you want to learn, that will be
good. Besides, the total score in high school increased during that period and
we have decided you will study aboard after high school. You can say we have
full trust in your ability of management. In private, I did search for some
institutions of Spanish yet those institutions are disqualified.

Q6-1: Later, I didnt do well in the TOEFL and SAT test. Did you still believe
I have some talented in linguistic, especially English?
A6-1: You always have bad results in the exam so that we didnt expect too much
of you. However, the thing about Spanish and German goes very well. You still do
well in classical-Chinese. I consider your love in diverse cultures brings
progress. Compared with physics and mathematics today, your ability in English
would be considered good.
