Reflection- Lesson 2

This lesson was on triangles and the different types of triangles there are. Because of the
amount of knowledge they would be learning, I tried to keep the lesson simple. But I did want
the lesson to be a little more interesting for them. We started off the lesson with a matching
game. I had each triangle printed out with a match and they had to play the memory game. They
loved it. This then lead into explaining each triangle. We had the white boards again because I
noticed my students really enjoyed drawing out the different items we were learning about and it
would fun to use them for review games at the end of the lesson. With each triangle I would draw
the triangle, then have them draw it. I explained why the triangle was called the name, for
example by explaining the two equal sides verses the three equal sides of the isosceles and
equilateral. I continued this with each triangle that they needed to learn. After the lesson, I drew
each triangle that we just learned on my whiteboard without the names. They were in pairs. Each
student would draw a different kind of triangle without their pair seeing. They would count to
three and flip their boards over and the first person to guess the other triangle first got a point.
This was something that I added on the spot because we had ended early. After this game, I
handed out their worksheet.
As you can see on the chart, no one received 100%. The only questions that everyone got
correct was questions number three and five. Question three was Draw a scalene triangle.
Question five was What was a right triangle? I am impressed that they got this one correct. I
think it was because we introduced the angles in the lesson before even though I did not plan too.
Number four all students but one missed it. The question was Circle the acute triangle. This
was a poorly written question I think on my part. Because the obtuse triangle does have acute
angles in it but it does not have all acute angles. So I think I should have worded like Circle the
triangle with all acute angles. I will use this example to help me with my next worksheet.
Levi: Make sure to ask him if he understands the concept before moving on to the next one.
Joseph: Have Joseph help me review at the end of this lesson to have him be involved more and
challenge him a little by having him help me teach.
Ceceli: Make sure that she has her white board flipped over with explaining new content because
she was distracted by drawing on it while I was teaching last lesson.
Lannea: Make sure she is separated from her friend groups so she is not distracted by talking to
them during the lesson.
